Its amazing, the concept and everything but it is so hardBut I guess that what makesit fun if you are competitive! I have only be at this for three days now and I am hooked! Itsfun and you learn something new. Its just insanely difficult.

this is a perfect app for those who are learning japanese, and are able to keep up withthe language. this game is fun and teaches you real life lessons, phrases, words that youneed to know! would recommend schools recommending this for students. it's so fun andreally great for learning.

Although I only tried the demo, it felt amazing to not only learn the Japanese words butalso to be directly tested on them. There are only two things missing that I wish were inthe game.1. Omnidirectional/8-way movement The movement felt a bit too retro. Not ahuge fan, but not a huge flaw by any means. 2. Hints during tests/examinations While thisis a nitpick, I struggled a bit on one of the questions. Maybe a simple phonetic hint orerasing unused letters would be nice on the tests. Once again, this is my opinion. Otherthan that, great game. Will try to get the full game soon!

How many people are working on this project?

When will the game be available?

Wagotabi already launched on iOS and Android! Wagotabi will launch on PC (Windows, Mac, Linux) on August 13 2025.

Have you used Japanese textbooks to make the word lists?

We have crossed all major Japanese textbook contents and extracted the essential concepts to include for a beginner starting from zero. These words are introduced in a way that fits the RPG development and every concept is used almost right away and reused as the game progresses.

Did you work with Japanese teachers / Japanese natives?

Over 300 teachers (half of them native Japanese speakers) have tested the game and gave us feedback on its contents. This helped us improve the concept step by step. Some teachers already use the app in their classes to illustrate some situations and provide interactions to their students. A lot of these teachers also suggested the game to their students.

Does this game have higher level content?

The current number of words and grammar concepts included in the game is updated on the website's main page. More content will be added gradually as more towns and prefectures are added.

Can I skip early levels to go straight to higher level content?

There is currently no level skip feature. However, you can skip words you already know in lessons to speed up the early phase of the game.

How often do you update Wagotabi?

We are regularly updating the game (see update history). However, we do not have a predetermined release schedule because we prioritize quality of the content over time pressure.
