The Geopets developer himself has made it clear that he is the only developer working on this game, so despite the really obvious comparisons to Pokémon GO, keep in mind that he's working alone. Instead of a whole team behind the game, there is only one person doing all of the work. This also explains why the game doesn't look particularly polished. The mechanics of Geopets are simple: in the turn-based combats, you use your geopets to defeat the enemies and then capture them. Once you do, they'll be added to your collection.
