Changelog:

These new files are exclusively for itch.io users that bought the first version of the game. This version is just a copy of the steam one.

If you already owns the steam version that's awesome and you don't need to play this one as it is practically the same (obviously you can play it anyways if you like).

This version won't conflict with any other previous version. It is not an update is another game.

Since originally this version was build with steam integration there is a couple of features that can only be access on steam.

The features that has to be removed it are:

Achievements (Instead they are kept as it were completed before)

User name in some papers and certificates

Chester's badge can not be load for the rest of the game, it only will appear in campaign mode after complete his quiz and resets every time.

Card mode is unlocked from the start, since this game mode was loaded from steam achievements.

Those features are only available on steam for windows and Linux users.

Why this version wasn't available on itch.io before?

Since I am just a simple guy without much experience in publishing video games I may misunderstood some stuff about the steam guidelines.

Now after a short break I was able to get better information about it and from there I was able to know what I need to change and do so I can share the game with you without breaking any rule.

Besides, I needed some time to change the code to remove the steam integration anyways and at least I can also delay the piracy of the game as well.

Then, if you are a windows or Linux user and you bought the game on steam and you feel like you wasted your money, don't worry, first you have access to all those features mentioned before, second from now you will be able to access all demos and/or betas version from my future projects, you will receive an email with the access to those projects when the time comes.

Thank you so much to all the people who truly understand my mistakes and support my work.

Comments:

That’s Not My Neighbor is a masterfully crafted indie horror game that transforms the quiet monotony of a doorman's job into a tense, paranoia-driven nightmare. Set in an alternate version of 1955, the game casts you as a building's security officer tasked with verifying the identities of tenants in a world overrun by dangerous shape-shifting doppelgangers. What begins as routine paperwork quickly evolves into a psychological game of deduction, fear, and consequence. The eerie blend of horror and bureaucracy creates a fresh, unsettling experience that keeps players on edge from start to finish. Each visitor to your desk brings a new dilemma. You're required to cross-reference their documents—name, apartment number, ID photo—with records to determine whether they're who they claim to be. The doppelgangers are sophisticated and unpredictable, sometimes betraying themselves with only the smallest inconsistencies: the wrong eye color, a suspicious smile, a nervous hesitation. What makes this loop so engaging is that there's rarely a clear answer. Your success relies on attention to detail, memory, and intuition rather than luck or brute force, making every encounter feel like a high-stakes gamble.

Personally LOVED the older version, it had the better functions, and features that aren't in the game currently. The game is alright, but overall it lacks features i used to help myself. Like the feature that shows you what they usually wear, Newer users or old returning users may not know that one of them usually wears a hat. And i missed called 1122, and I wish nightmare mode was here aswell. this version is alright, solid 4.5/10, but it feels like a rough draft rather then the original having more features.

This game is creepy, clever, and surprisingly emotional for something that seems simple at first glance. You play as a doorman in a 1950s-style apartment building, checking IDs and spotting doppelgängers pretending to be real tenants. Sounds easy? It's not. What makes That’s Not My Neighbor so special is the slow, eerie tension it builds. The music, the soft grainy art style, the little details in each resident—it all comes together perfectly. And the doppelgängers? Genuinely unsettling. I found myself second-guessing everyone, even the ones I knew were safe.

Final Verdict:

That’s Not My Neighbor – welcome to the Doppelganger Detection Department (D.D.D.). If you are looking for an exciting adventure and ready to take on the challenge, then you are on the right track. Your mission, if you accept it, will not only ensure the safety of your home, but also protect the world from the invasion of doppelgangers. As a doorman, you will monitor and filter everyone who tries to enter the building. This task requires attentiveness, observation and, of course, the ability to make quick decisions. After all, every wrong step can lead to dangerous consequences. Doppelgangers have started to appear more often, and your role is becoming even more significant. Be prepared for various situations, treachery and unpredictable turns of events.
