I will admit I was (yes, past tense) a self proclaimed yandere hater. I just didn’t get the appeal of romancing a man that shows his love by locking you in a cage. I’m NOT into confinement…not my kink. To this day I am still pissed at being locked in a dog cage by Toma in Amnesia Memories, and it’s been over 10 years since I played that man’s route. But, as they say, “time heals all wounds” and over the years I have played many more yandere games and I can honestly say—I kinda get it now.

There’s just something really hot about a person who is so in love with you to the point of obsession. Devotion is second only to consent on the sexy scale. AND you can’t go wrong with a partner who will do anything for you, even eliminating your enemies. Now that, is true love. Of course, I wouldn’t want a psycho BF in real life, for obvious reasons, but in a game there is something cozy about a partner who is as devoted as a yandere.

So, that’s where my head was at going into How to Break Up with My Yandere Boyfriend—where the premise is you have to break up with your seemingly too good to be true boyfriend. Not gonna lie, Soren has all the hallmarks of a perfect partner. He’s loyal, handsome, has a good job; the man is the perfect package. And that’s kind of the problem, Soren is too good to be true. Especially when you’re a hot mess with nothing to offer him… So, instead of waiting for him to come to his senses and dump you first, you decide to beat him to the punch.

And a quiet dinner at his place is the perfect time to end things. But, when you arrive at his house and spend time with him, you start remembering all the good times and your resolve wavers. That is until you start to notice some “odd” things around the house that make question whether Soren is the boring perfect guy you thought he was. Stuff like his antique knife collection and the refrigerator full of unmarked meat… maybe Mr. Perfect has some skeletons in his closet…

On top of that your fine AF piece of shit actor ex, Lars, starts sniffing around again and he claims to have done some soul searching since your break up. He also hints that he knows some things about Soren that’ll change how you see him. But given his your history, you’re not sure if he’s telling the truth or if he’s just looking to cause drama in your current relationship. Though given the weird stuff you discover in Soren’s house, maybe Lars is onto something.

The whole demo takes place over an entire evening at Soren’s place. He pretty much gives you free reign to snoop through his things while he works on dinner in the kitchen. Or if you’re totally not trying to break up with Soren, you can get to know him better by helping him prep dinner.

Unfortunately, we’re here with some sad news this time. Due to pressure from payment processors and certain third-party groups, a lot has happened on Itch recently. For those who haven't heard, here's a quick summary:

NSFW games have been de-indexed, meaning they can no longer be found via search or browsing, only through direct links.

What happened to HTBWYYB?

Yes, HTBWYYB was affected by these changes. Despite having no NSFW content in its current state, our game was marked as "Adult" and de-indexed. Even after disabling payments, we’re still not relisted. We’ve contacted support but haven’t received a response yet, given that many games are facing the same issue, it might take a while. We’ll keep you updated.

About the Game’s Content

We believe that neither the demo nor the planned full versions (SFW or NSFW) violate Itch’s old or new content guidelines.

Even though the game includes characters who are survivors of traumatic events (rape, incest, child abuse), there are no explicit scenes depicting these events, only their emotional impact on the characters’ lives and decisions. These themes are part of the story content, not sexual content. The current demo doesn’t even mention these themes, and we’ve since removed them from the warning tags to avoid misunderstanding.

All planned sexual content in future versions will be consensual. (Seriously, how could Soren ever do, or allow, such a thing to the MC?)

So we don’t know why the game was flagged as "Adult," and we’re unsure how Itch will evaluate it. We’ll have to wait and see.

The Future of the Game

Due to these developments, the paid NSFW version will not be released on Itch until things become clearer. For now, we plan to distribute uncensored releases via Patreon(one-time purchase posts) when it's ready. You can follow monthly updates there for free (if you’re 18+).

For players who already paid on Itch, we hope to provide access to the uncensored version via direct links later (if possible).

We’re also prioritizing the Steam demo.

We have two options for the free SFW version:

If the current page is taken down, we’ll create a new one featuring only light horror/thriller elements, yandere themes, and neutral endings.

If we’re re-indexed, we’ll release an SFW version without sexual/gore content but keeping the horror and trauma elements including both good and bad endings.

We hope this situation is temporary and that things will normalize soon. We’re incredibly grateful for your support, it’s our biggest motivation as a team. Development may be slower due to these issues, but HTBWYYB will return with a new update.
