However, the difference of Amnesia: The Dark Descent compared to other games of the same genre is that there are rarely jumpscare scenes, but instead, the author has created a dark, even violent scene. Every time you enter a new area, look for a good hiding place and keep it in mind. It may be useful if a gatherer is looking for you.

If you are out of a room and a gatherer is close to you, don’t rush around aimlessy. Don’t panic, turn off your lantern and try to understand where the gatherer is. If you know that, go in the opposite direction. As appropriate, it may be better to move away slowly or run away. If you are in a dark place and the gatherer is not moving towards you, it may be better to go away silently. If you are in the light and the gatherer is about to see you, it is better to run away, rather in a zig-zag path, if it is possibile.

15 years later and this game still manages to be one of the best horror games to ever be released.Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a fantastic survival horror game where you must use your immersion, discovery, and solve puzzles in order to progress further into the game. The art direction is perfect, with some of the areas being just wallpaper worthy as well. The story is also great too and the voice acting is well done too. The gameplay is also pretty good too, considering Amnesia has inspired many games of their own based on it too. Although it may not be as scary after a few runs, I still consider it to be replayable because of how relaxing it can be.Definitely a must buy for anyone that is willing to try or go into horror games, it is worth the money and you will definitely enjoy it without a doubt.

Can you imagine what would've happened to all those popular YouTubers back then if this game didn't exist? Some of them would probably still be working at a hot dog stand today. A classic masterpiece in the horror genre. Features an underrated story that is quite fascinating in its own right, and afluid, interactive gameplay that compliments everything so well.I even used to fall asleep while listening to different videos playing the flashbacks and the notes narrated by the main character on repeat.It took me around ~12 hours or so to get 100% achievements.

 An important game that definitely shows its age a bit in 2025. Kind of fun, kind of creepy, definitely kind of cheesy, and you can also tell why it was important at the time (can't fight enemies but have to hide/run from them, also some interesting use of the physics engine to solve puzzles). Agrippa may be the most ridiculous support character / mission giver I've encountered in a horror game – I might have to go back and play the last bit again just to see if I can bring him along with me at the ending.
