Don’t forget that Silent Hill 2 also has its share of dangers from both humans and monsters lurking around you. Note that you need to memorize the areas in the game because not every location in Silent Hill is marked on the map. Be careful and find the answers you need.

Strategies:

Killing enemies won't do anything but make the area safer: Killing enemies in Silent Hill 2 gets you nothing, it just makes the area safe. So you'll likely have to kill everything in confined areas otherwise you'll just attacked constantly as you try to solve puzzles. But, when you're exploring the town, it's far easier to creep or sprint past everything. Because you get nothing for a kill you only ever go into fights with everything to lose and nothing to gain, so don't risk it if you don't have to. If you are going to take everything on however, make sure you have all the Silent Hill 2 Remake weapons to make things easier. There's even a chainsaw on NG+!

Look out for low attacks and make sure things stay dead: Silent Hill 2 loves having enemies below your sightline. That can come in a variety of different forms - sometimes it's a crawler pushing itself towards you, sometimes it's a beetle that needs to be stepped on, sometimes it's an enemy on the underside of a metal grill you're walking on. Or, sometimes, it's an enemy you thought was dead.

A single pistol shot to the head is a great opener for any fight: While you eventually get more powerful firearms like the Silent Hill 2 Remake shotgun, you start with a pistol. That doesn't do a huge amount of damage so can eat through precious ammo. However, a good approach is to use a single head shot to start a fight. That tends to stun enemies and cause them to reel back, giving you a moment to sprint forward and press the advantage by battering them with a board or a pipe. The stealth kill above is better, but this is a good second option for fighting most enemies.

Get ready to dodge after an attack: James' standard melee combo is a three-strike sequence, and it generally stuns most enemies while it's happening (with the exception of bosses). However, the moment it's over is the most likely time for for something to attack back, and exactly the time you need to back up or dive to the side by using the dodge button. So get into the habit of attacking and dodging as one combo.

I never played a Silent Hill game before. I bought this one because everyone talks about how SH2 is incredible and all that. I played it a few hours and didn't get it.Fast forward a few weeks, I am talking to a stranger at the local bar. Somehow we get to talking about SH2. He is a big fan. I tell him my struggles getting into the game. He told me to just go back and play it. "Just play it man." Okay, so I played the game.Damn. I get it now. I have even gone back to play the first game, third game, PSP spinoffs, etc.Great stuff. This is a game that will stick with you.

Massive survival horror fan and wasn’t sure what to expect from the remake of a classic. But my god this game hit hard!!!The atmosphere this game created has been unlike anything Iv experienced for a long time. I played it on a 4K OLED monitor with my headphones and a controller and it created such an uneasy, tense and terrifying mood. Exploring the environments in the darkness and seeing something move out of the corner of my eye scared me so many times!I recommend playing on hard made as it just adds to the tension and makes each encounter fulfilling as hell when you get the win.

Brutal, horrific, and exceptionally well made. I loved it.Playing it on standard may not have been for the best though. The first 5-10 hours were genuinely hard to play on account of how the dreadful atmosphere and terrifying enemy encounters were. After you get the shotgun its much less scary. Ammo and health items are plentiful and I never once ran out of anything except for rifle rounds.My recommendation is to play it on hard to maintain that terror throughout the game, assuming the resources will be limited. Looking forward to the NG+ on hard playthrough to confirm.

This is a must-play in my opinion, and easily one of the best single player game I've played in decades. The story, graphics, sound, gameplay, and atmosphere are all top-notch. Even if you don't like 'scary' games this one is still worth a playthrough for the underlying psychological themes that run through it's narrative. 10/10.
