Plague Inc. is a game that simulates the spread of a virus. You can choose the type of spreader to create a disease and spread it across the world. In the game, you have an unlimited amount of DNA, allowing you to choose more ways to spread your disease, including viruses, bacteria, fungi, parasites, and more. Not strong enough? You can modify the disease's genetic code to enhance its spread and conquer more areas. A world map tracks your progress, allowing you to launch attacks on any organization that invents a cure, slowing down their research. The game offers three difficulty levels: Casual, Normal, and Brutal. Too easy? The highest difficulty, Brutal, will definitely satisfy your needs! Don't want a high difficulty level? Your pathogen has just infected "Patient Zero." Now, you must evolve a deadly global plague while overcoming all of humanity's defenses, ultimately ending human history.

Gameplay

Each player represents a deadly disease, and they must fight each other, spreading the plague, developing new symptoms, and ultimately wiping out humanity.

Starting as Patient Zero, you spread the infection by placing markers in cities, gaining DNA points and preventing other players from gaining dominance. Players can choose which countries to place on the map, but you must also possess climate adaptability and be connected to the target countries to infect them. Eventually, once some countries are fully infected, you will attempt to eliminate them using the Death Dice.

Each player's unique pathogen can be upgraded by evolving trait cards onto the evolution rail (consuming DNA points). At the start of the game, your disease is weak and nonspecific, so you need to add new symptoms to increase its power. Choose carefully and plan ahead to cope with the ever-changing world and seize opportunities created by other players' actions.

A simple nosebleed can accelerate the spread of an epidemic early on, while diarrhea can help you survive in hot countries. Sneezing can spread the virus to new continents through the air, but systemic organ failure can allow you to eliminate multiple countries each turn.

As nations decline, use powerful event cards to shift the balance of power. You can try bombing a plague-ravaged city of a powerful nation to wipe them out, or host the Olympics to send a massive influx of infected people to a healthy continent.

Multiplayer (including Versus and Co-op modes)

If "Guaranteed Mode" is enabled, players can now defeat the previous plague in Casual Mode to unlock the next one. Additionally, some new plague types are available at the start of the game.
