Players will need to be agile and quick to jump and move to successfully overcome the challenges of the climb. Will Madeline ultimately achieve her dream? As the game progresses, players will face even more difficult challenges and encounter a variety of characters representing Madeline's various emotions and unresolved issues. Interacting with these characters will help Madeline achieve her personal transformation. The game also features carefully crafted music in different styles, providing players with a more immersive experience.

Gameplay of Celeste:

Celeste's gameplay features fast and tight controls along a series of challenging platforming sublevels that make up a larger Chapter. It follows the simple to learn and hard to master controls that are a staple of its genre, and gameplay has often been compared to others, like Super Meat Boy.

The Prologue introduces players to the basic controls, such as jumping and the ability to climb walls. The dash—one of the main movement options in the game—is gifted to the player at the end of the level, seemingly by the Bird. This dash is the core mechanic of Celeste's gameplay, giving the player a short burst forward in the direction that the player is holding. It can only be used a limited number of times, and must be refreshed before dashing again. The status of the player's available dashes is indicated by Madeline's hair colour. Refreshing the dash is done in a multitude of ways, but the main actions include touching the ground, collecting stamina crystals and screen transitions.

The sublevels, and by extension the game's Chapters, get progressively harder as more mechanics and obstacles are introduced, and the use of these elements merge and flow together the closer the player gets to the summit. Towards the endgame, Celeste introduces many more moves that use various combinations of the basic three moves (jumping, climbing, and dashing) in tandem; these techniques are explored in detail on the Moves page.

Useful Tips of Celeste:

Wall jumping does not use your stamia

Green crystals restore your dash AND stamina.

Your controller will vibrate in intervals with your stamina. Since there is no visual meter for stamina, this is a way to keep track of it.

Flying strawberries will scare away if you dash on screen. Sometimes you meed to scare the Strawberry out of hiding and toward you.

Strawberries will lock in when they "feel safe."

If you lock in a strawberry, it stays locked in for the entire level, even if you die immediately after securing it.

Quitting out of a level will keep any strawberries (and deaths) you accumulated during that run.

There are no collectibles in the B Side levels. Just focus on surviving the platforming gauntlet and making it to the end!

Every chapter has sub-chapters that you can select as a starting point after completing it one time. The start of these are marked in the levels with a small image of Celeste Mountain in the background.

Conclusion:

Celeste left a very clear impression on me from the very first levels. The character moves quickly, jumps cleanly, and clings to walls decisively. There’s no annoying lag. Every action responds almost instantly. When I first started playing, I died constantly, so many times I lost count. But strangely, I didn’t feel frustrated. This feeling arose because every time I died, I knew exactly where I went wrong. Jumped too early. Dashed a beat too late. My aiming wasn’t right.
