Warrior of the North Wood

Warrior of the North Wood is a story-driven new game where players follow the warrior Linda Wright in her fight against an evil lord. Facing the lord's corrupting magic that is ravaging the world, players must battle various enemies and monsters, skillfully using different weapons to defeat their opponents and unlock more areas and outfits. Be careful, though; a moment's inattention can lead to defeat by a powerful boss, triggering corresponding defeat cutscenes and suggestive animations. As the game progresses, players will face even more challenges and enemies. Will you ultimately become a savior, or succumb to the dark abyss of desire?

Characters of Warrior of the North Wood:

Linda Wright or, as she is more famously known, the Warrior of the North Wood is a mysterious, red Foxcat that appeared in the old, oak forests in the north country. She seemed to be on a dedicated mission to dismantle the corrupted aristocracy that wielded dark magicks to manipulate and oppress their people. At first, she wasn't considered much of a threat; just another rabble rouser trying to make a name for herself. However, they began to take notice when the first of the dark lords was found dead and the powerful artifacts he wielded were gone. Furthermore, unlike any other so-called hero who would revel in the victory and proclaim it to the people, Linda moved on just as swift as she came to focus on her next target. She didn't rally the people, didn't make any calls for social justice or equality, there was merely a whisper that the Warrior of the North Wood had come before another royal fell. Rumors spread like wildfire. Some thought she was an assassin under some greater threat's employ, others believed she was amassing the powerful artifacts for some nefarious purpose and others believed she was a symbol of justice and right. Regardless of what anyone believed, the Warrior of the North Wood continued her mission, carefully infiltrating each Lord and Lady's courts before striking without mercy and stealing away their power.

For all the legendary items she stole, she had only been known to use one: a weapon known as a Soul Dagger. Rumors speak of a Wild Wizard that forged it for her, tying Linda's very essence to the Dagger and allowing her to channel her own power and will into it. While this type of weapon is not unique to her, the power of Linda's Soul Dagger surpassed any before it and became unequaled before any other weapon. Mundane weapons shatter against it, magic runes and incantations fizzled as it pierced them and without Linda willing to release it, no mortal hands could remove it from her. However, this power comes at a price. Should anyone find a way to steal the dagger away from her and hold it as their own, they would have influence over her for as long as they possessed it. Even separation from the Soul-Bonded weapon would weaken the original holder and prolonged separation or great distance from their weapon would be deadly.

For years, the Warrior of the North Wood operated, striking down one noble after another but it seemed that just as fast as they fell, two more would rise in their place. Bounties were placed on her, militias sent to find her, it seemed the entire kingdom was set on finding her and then the whispers stopped. Weeks passed and she was never seen. Months passed and no noble had fallen. Years passed and the people began to forget about her. Those who remembered believed she may have simply retired or perhaps she had finally been caught and disposed of. As quietly as she had appeared, she had vanished once more, like many of the other heroes and greats who would protect the people. Hope is nearly extinguished and the seekers of justice and freedom are a dying breed. The world is changing, transforming into some dark, twisted shadow of what it once was while those who still hold hope pray for the return of the Crimson Lady, the Green-Eyed Viper, the Warrior of the North Wood.

Thank you all for your feedback on Warrior of the North Wood v0.1! We've taken what we learned, put in some adjustments, visual tweaks, and put them all together in this patch. Unless something major comes up, we're going to get hard at work on v0.2 which will include the next area, next batch of enemies and the next boss! Please see below the patch notes for V0.1.1

Added combat animations to indicate physical attacks, seduction attacks or magic attacks

Added color indicators to battle text to indicate Crits or special attacks from enemies

Changed it so the post-boss scene only plays after defeating the boss the first time

Made enemy health and will bars stand out more from the background to make them easier to see

Tweaked Kobold Binder so that their ropes are less accurate to hit and they are easier to escape

Defeating enemies now also count towards completing objectives, making progressing to the next objectives less RNG

Counter Attacks now reduce HP when successful and Allure Attacks now reduce HP when successful

Fixed bug where the second loss to the boss via HP loss didn't trigger the scene scene

It's very basic, somewhat fun, but there is not much action or anything to do. The drawings are pretty cute, altho some enemies could look a bit better, also it's a lot about reading, would be better if it was easier to see what's actually happening over reading every action.

It's pretty good for a v0.1, and it's refreshing to be able to say that.The art is simple but it has soul and life, more than can be said for all the AI slop coming out nowadays.The combat has options for exploiting weaknesses, and there are multiple scenes and a variant for both losing HP, losing will, and draining the enemy's will. The in-combat H is entirely text but it is pretty salacious text which helps alongside the HP based clothing loss system.My one major issue is it does not do a very good job at all of explaining any of the 7 combat options to click, and hovering over them doesn't tell you either, you just have to guess the runes so to speak. Admittingly this may be my fault for skipping the intro (if it contained a tutorial at all) which I will always do for v0.1s, but it makes it pure guesswork to know if you are exploting a weakness, and remembering which symbol means which element.

I think 3/5 is pretty fair, for what the game is.Personally, I like the character a lot - cute furry chick, good outfits, and the dev did a great job drawing her expressions, which is usually a pain spot.For the gameplay, honestly the biggest issue is the UI. I don't know how to describe it other than "needs a complete rework".To be constructive:Buttons need to "pop" - add small shadows (0.5px down-right), curve the edges more.On-hover descriptors - which button does what? Some are obvious, but, for example, there's apparently a counter-attack now? I couldn't know how to trigger that honestly, or how much damage one thing does vs another, or how much I block. I know that ice reduces horny and fire magic increases horny (for enemies), but it's a bit trial-and-error atm.The flashing level transitions with the UI popping in-and-out is a bit of an eyesore.Text box covers sexy times and the (again, personal opinion) decent art.Still don't know how much a level improves Linda, since the stat bars are bland and uninformative, they kinda work when changing outfits though, so that's nice.
