Ocean Keeper: Dome Survival blends several game genres, integrating roguelike and strategy elements. In the game, there are two alternating modes. For the first one, players control a character, Digger, and explore underwater caves, scattered throughout the location, to find valuable resources and relics for upgrades. A timer indicates the amount of time left before the next wave of enemies, so the character must return to the Mech with as many resources as possible before the creatures appear and start destroying the robotic spider, Mech. For the second mode, players control a Mech by moving it and controlling its weapons. When all ocean creatures are defeated, the modes will alternate until the Mech is completely destroyed. The goal is to survive as long as possible against constant waves of monsters that become more difficult with every new wave.
Exploring the caves allows players to collect valuable resources (iron, copper, and diamonds) and relics. Resources are used to restore a player's health, increase damage output, boost the speed, and other things. Relics are weapons and power-ups for the Digger and Mech that are placed directly on the characters themselves. Additionally, the game features a meta-currency. Some of the resources can be used during the game session, and some of them after death for upgrades in the gaming hub.
In the Ocean Keeper, the gaming hub is the place where players can use all their resources and upgrade the equipment for the next sessions. Also, there are three different suits for Mech and Digger, which change depending on what you are upgrading in the gaming hub.

Players can mix and match these artifacts to create synergies that suit their playstyle, introducing a level of strategy that encourages experimentation. Discovering and equipping artifacts becomes a rewarding endeavor, empowering players to adapt and overcome the challenges of the deep.
Evolving Your Experience: Ocean Keeper thrives on a robust meta-progression system that encourages players to continuously evolve their abilities. This might include upgrading weapons to unlock new firing patterns or enhancing your dive suit for greater mobility. The feeling of progress is palpable as every improvement directly impacts your capability to survive against the ocean’s myriad threats. Choose wisely; the path you carve will shape your journey in unforeseen ways.

I wasn't even fully sure if I should keep Codename: Ocean Keeper in my list of bullet heaven games. After all, it's certainly a hybrid of sorts. The player gets to control a fairly slow mech in a 3D top-down view underwater environment, looking for caves to explore to mine minerals. When entering a mine, the player controls a diver in a peaceful 2D sidescroller mode, where they get a limited time to extract said minerals - which then can be spent on upgrades for either the diver's speed, mining power or carrying capabilities. Going forward, the diver can even use drones and mines to increase their mining capabilities. When the time runs out, it's time to rush back to the mech, and the bullet heaven-esque formula begins, with a lot of sea creatures to take down. The chill mining gives way to intense action against a couple waves of a lot of enemies, moving slowly as hell even with upgrades but with increasingly wild firepower between automatic and manual attacks alike. When the waves are over, the timer begins anew, and the player can choose to continue exploring a previously seen cave or crawl with the mech towards a new one and dig up the stuff from there instead. This formula is honestly a lot of fun, with both the relaxed nature of the mining and the mech combat parts working quite well. As said, the movement of the robot could certainly be faster to accomodate a more dynamic genre like this, but the challenge is in the positioning too. Variety isn't too high for now, with only a handful of weapons and skills to use, which don't really allow for major variety in builds. Permanent upgrades are present, but again without that many options and with rather slow progression. Still, this is one of the most unique takes on the genre thus far, and I can see myself coming back from time to time, as content updates and fixes hopefully improve the already neat formula.
Fun game that will keep you entertained for an afternoon. Gameplay is similar to Dome Keeper and Wall World but a lot shorter and action packed. I 100% it in 3 hours, there's more meta upgrades I could grind for but I feel like I've seen everything the game has to offer in those 3 hours. For that reason I'd say wait for a discount, though the full price is not bad for what you get.Don't expect too much from the mining part of the game, almost every cave is nearly identical in size and layout, but some have a relic (always near the entrance), and a few have a puzzle that gives you a relic. There's not a whole lot of exploring nor is there a whole lot of depth to the upgrades. Ocean Keeper has more meta progression than Dome Keeper though, which I liked. Someone said in their review that this game is grindy... it's not. You earn meta upgrade points just from drilling blocks, so every run you'll earn meta points that can go to new permanent upgrades, and you'll earn more than enough of those if you just drill between waves. All in all if you're looking for a more action oriented twist on Dome Keeper, or just want to have fun for a couple hours while getting an easy 100% achievement, you won't be disappointed if you pick this up at 50% off.
Right, so here we are. Ocean Keeper. Oh, brilliant. another indie game, isn't it? Because we don’t have enough of those. But, you know what, it's actually... surprisingly good. Yeah, I know. I was shocked too. You dig around in the ocean, get a bit sweaty, and then suddenly you're being attacked by weird creatures that look like they’ve wandered off the set of a low-budget horror film. Just what you need after a long day, right?
One of the most attractive elements that this game will be able to bring to its players is a vast underground world built under the deep ocean. The game will be able to bring its players a completely new environmental experience every time they enter the vast underwater dungeon with its system. Players must constantly adjust their strategies as they face the challenges of changing the game’s hand-crafted environments. This feature is designed to provide players with a mysterious underwater experience and other elements of curiosity and excitement.
