Mario Kart Tour will take players on a global racing journey, allowing them to drive go-karts against up to seven other players on tracks set in major cities around the world. Showcase your driving skills, collect powerful items to accelerate yourself or hinder your opponents to become the final winner, earn rich rewards, and unlock new drivers, go-karts, and gliders. Players' fastest times on each track will be displayed on a leaderboard. Practice on the track in single-player mode to compete against players from around the world.

The game deviates from the traditional gameplay of the Mario Kart series, where the objective is to reach the finish line in first; this game utilizes a point-based system. There are four options of speed: 50cc (namely "leisurely"), 100cc ("fast"), 150cc ("very fast") and 200cc ("too fast"; Only available to Gold Pass owners, which is a subscription purchasable in the game). Unlike previous installments in the series, much of the driving (notably acceleration, jump boosts) is performed automatically. Mario Kart Tour includes features from previous Mario Kart games, such as underwater racing and hang gliding from Mario Kart 7. This game introduces a new Frenzy mode, which occurs when a driver gets three identical items from an item box, allowing them to repeatedly use the item for a short period.Each character can get a unique item (also known as "Special Skill") from item boxes.

Mario Kart Tour introduces a new format called "Tours". Tours are named after cities in the real world, Mario series characters, Mario series games, or other themes. The cups are also named after some of the drivers in the game instead of the usual items in the Mario franchise, similar to the Mario Kart Arcade GP series.

After the player finishes a race, the player is awarded Grand Stars to unlock tour gifts, coins and experience points for the used character, kart, and glider. If the player finishes in the top three, they will earn some player points for their level. If the player finishes in 5th place or below, the level-gauge will decrease. When the player fills the gauge all the way, they will level-up to get a reward. Each course also has an experience point limit. Currently, the max player-level is 400.

You’ll probably need two or three setups for the different types of races and challenges you’ll face but strive for one racer, one kart, and one glider that can take you to the top in almost every situation.

Shoot For The Grand Stars: As you start completing tracks, winning cups, and earning points you’ll start earning Grand Stars. Grand Stars are the way you unlock new cups which can offer you Tour Gift rewards. These rewards can be new drivers, karts, gliders, coins, and rubies.It’s recommended you blitz as far as you can through the levels scooping whatever stars come your way and then use what you earn to upgrade your setup and go back for the tougher stars you missed.

Save Your Item: If you are in any position other than first it’s typically a good idea to use your item fairly soon, but if you’re in first it’s best to hang onto it. When you’re in first you are driving around with a large target on your back, having an item on hand will actually act as a shield that negates an attack at the cost of the item.Of course, use the item if you’re about to receive another one, but don’t be afraid to hang onto that item for the rest of the race. It’s better to win with an item you didn’t ever use, then to get second because you couldn’t resist triggering that boost of speed.

Rank Casually: Whenever a ranking challenge comes around it’s tempting to become a little competitive and see how high you can get. If you can do this comfortably without spending any coins or rubies go for it, but if you need a significant amount of currency to get the ranking don’t bother.There are some nice rewards, but it honestly will never pay out what you put into it especially considering you’re going up against stronger players and people willing to shell out a few dollars to ensure the win. Do what you can for now and know that with better a better set up and a higher level you’ll be more dangerous in rankings later on.

The game overall is great with superb graphics and game play. But instead of becoming more fun and interesting the more you play and the more you pay, the less interesting it becomes. This game is amazing. Nintendo is the best. Dear Nintendo, can you please think of updating this game once more? I don't have a Nintendo Switch myself and thanks to a dear friend I discovered this tiny sweet game that I could easily get in my Android. I'm feeling heartbroken knowing I it didn't have any more updated tours since 2023. For how many downloads you guys receive, you can clearly see the game is loved and so are all the characters from the Marioverse. Please please please please.

I really like the points system with everything and the fact that you don't need to have the recommended characters, karts, or gliders to beat the standard requirements. The controls take some getting used to but is understandable for mobile touchscreen. I would like the courses be 3 laps but 2 for mobile honestly seems like a good fit. Can't wait for multiplayer.
