Hollow Knight: Silksong is a popular action-adventure game where players embark on a pilgrimage, engaging in intense battles against over 200 enemies and more than 40 legendary bosses. Players will utilize their weapons and skillful movement to defeat foes and earn rich rewards to continuously upgrade their weapons. As the game progresses, players will awaken more unknown powers, gradually uncovering the secrets of Minecraft's origins while exploring ruins and collecting various treasures. Upon completion, higher difficulty levels will be unlocked, presenting players with fewer lives and more challenging enemies, pushing their limits and providing even more enjoyment.
Hollow Knight: Silksong's gameplay is similar to its predecessor Hollow Knight, featuring 2D platforming and combat. Some changes are made from the original, such as the player character moving more acrobatically and healing faster. Side-quests (called "Wishes") are tracked in a journal. These quests are provided by non-player characters or found at quest boards.
Equippable "Tools" are divided into three categories: blue and yellow Tools are passive and support-oriented, while red Tools are typically offensive weapons. Red Tools are manually activated and have a limited number of charges which must be replenished with Shell Shards, an in-game currency, at Benches. Hornet is limited in how many Tools of each colour she can equip, with her maximum capacity modified when changing between different gameplay styles, known as "Crests". In addition to their varying tool makeups, the speed and range of Hornet's attack move-set differs between Crests. Each Crest also possesses a unique mechanic, such as boosting damage dealt if hits are avoided or allowing for tools to be replenished without resting at a Bench.
When attacking enemies or interacting with certain objects and locations, Hornet adds "Silk" to her reservoir. Silk can be used for healing, with three hit points (called "Masks") recovered in a single heal.Silk can also be expended to use "Silk Skills", additional attacks which are unlocked by locating remnants of the Weavers and their society when progressing through the game. Tools, Crests and Silk Skills can be adjusted when sitting at Benches, which also serve as a source of healing and act as respawn points after all hit points are lost.Throughout the game, Hornet also unlocks different movement options that expand her mobility and aid in combat. These include a grappling hook-like "Clawline", a "Drifter's Cloak" that catches wind currents and allows Hornet to travel upward when over updrafts or fall slowly, wall climbing ("Cling Grip"), and a vertical leap that launches her upward with her Needle ("Silk Soar").

Acrobatic needle and thread combat: Hollow Knight: Silksong emphasizes timing, spacing, and mobility during every encounter. You chain dashes, wall climbs, counters, and pinpoint thrusts to handle fast enemies in tight arenas. Fights feel readable but demanding, and success comes from learning patterns and staying composed under pressure.
Silk abilities and crafting tools: You unlock silk techniques that open new paths and create options in battle. Crafting expands your toolkit further, letting you adjust traversal routes and approach platforming puzzles with different solutions. As your loadout grows, former obstacles turn into more efficient shortcuts.
Interconnected biomes and smart routing: Hollow Knight: Silksong builds a large, connected world with mossy caverns, coral groves, gilded streets, and misted hills. Landmarks and shortcuts help you plan routes that reduce backtracking as your abilities improve. Exploration rewards observation, so each revisited area can reveal a cleaner path forward.
Wide enemy roster and demanding bosses: You face more than 200 enemies and over 40 bosses that test pattern recognition and resource management. Boss rematches encourage small adjustments until your approach fits the arena and attacks. An optional Steel Soul mode increases the stakes for players who want a stricter test.

Look for Hidden Walls and Entrances: Right from the very first screen, Silksong wants you to start paying attention to hidden walls. You’ll immediately find your first secret room to the right by jumping into the wall. You’ll find some currency in here, but you can even jump behind the rightmost wall again, where there is another hidden room where you can fight a tough enemy for a Beast Shard. Hidden rooms like this pop up often, usually in rooms that may initially seem like they have no purpose, so make a habit of smacking suspicious walls, or jumping into dead ends, and just generally keeping an eye out for subtle visual cues.
Learn the Bind Mechanic: Healing works differently in Silksong. Instead of healing one mask at a time, you now fill up your Silk meter and use Bind to restore multiple health units at once. Early on, this lets you heal three masks in a single go – but keep in mind it always consumes your entire Silk bar, even if you only needed to heal one. You can even heal in the air right from the get go! Which is a nice improvement over Hollow Knight’s heal that kept you grounded and stationary.
Use Your Weapon as a Vaulting Tool: Hornet’s weapon doubles as a traversal tool. While you can’t pogo straight down like in the original Hollow Knight (at least at first), you can strike at a downward angle to bounce off enemies or spikes. This lets you stay airborne and reach otherwise inaccessible areas. For example, you can vault off an enemy to grab Mossberries that are just out of reach.
Attack Through Objects: Your weapon isn’t just for direct strikes, either, as it can swing through objects and cover, still hitting enemies as long as they’re within range. Use this to your advantage by hiding behind world objects for protection while still dealing damage through them.
Jump Quickly After Mantling: Not only does Hornet jump higher than the knight from the first game, but she can also mantle up on ledges she gets close to. The mantle animation takes a brief moment, but you can press the jump button during this animation to launch off of ledges quickly without a penalty to your jump height, so use this to move vertically faster.
Enemy Respawns Work Differently: Silksong mixes Soulslike and Metroidvania mechanics. Some enemies stay dead after you kill them, others respawn when you rest at a bench, and a few will even return if you simply leave and re-enter a screen.
Recovering Rosary Beads: When you die, you can reclaim your Rosary Beads, Silksong’s main currency, by getting back to your spool, which spawns where you fell. Die again before retrieving it, though, and those beads are gone for good. The good news? Your shell shards aren’t lost upon death, unless you used some of your tools before you tied, since the shards are used to restore your tools whenever you rest at a bench. Fortunately, in a nice change from Hollow Knight, you don’t have to fight anything to reclaim your currency this time around.

Honestly, I liked this version of Hollow Knight better than first Hollow Knight, I thought it was exactly the same as the first game, but after playing it, I saw a big difference.The gameplay is more interesting and varied, with many new features. The atmosphere is more pleasant and less creepy than in the previous game.The music, as always, is amazing; I absolutely love it.The combat system is interesting and straightforward; I thought it would be more challenging. The map is very interesting to explore, and it has many different traps and tricks that will hinder you.Overall, this game is very enjoyable and interesting; I don't regret finishing it!
This game is good when its good, however there is definetly a steep difficulty curve. If you have never picked up a 2d metroidvainia or a basic platformer, This game is not built for you unfortunately. The combat is fast, and if you hesitate half your health is obliterated as your inevitably wombo comboed by the fast moving boss. However, if you have played either of these types of games for a decent length of time it will be amazing and a breath of fresh air thats not quite the same as any other metroidvania.
Ever since playing the amazing game of Hollow Knight, I knew I had to try Silksong soon. This game is amazing and just as good as the original game, maybe even better. Apart from the hard 2 dmg per hit punishment everything else is great. This is a must try game and it wont disappoint you!
Hollow Knight: Silksong is an amazing sequal to Team Cherry's Hollow Knight. You get to experience a vast, meticulously handcrafted, and lore-rich world along with polished combat, challenging enemies, and plenty of friendly or neutral characters. For Hollow Knight fans, I would highly recommend this game. But beware, it is incredibly challenging (and in a fun way, when you start getting used to it).
However, the "start getting used to it" part takes a long time, honestly. And the issue boils down to the one fatal design flaw in my opinion. Let's face it. You know it, I know it. We made countless memes about it and we all have lived through the pain. Yes, I am talking about Hunter's March. It is an optional area in the early act that you can completely skip, and you still won't be missing out on anything. But nothing tells you that. To be honest, it's an area that's designed for the later part of this game. However, Team Cherry underestimated Hollow Knight players. When there's a path, the Hollow Knight players will try their damnest to find their way through it. There's no clear indication that this area is optional. Even the subtle deterrent at the entrance of Hunter's March (the huge Ant Warrior) does a bad job of deterring the players from exploring this path.I have been a few negative reviews here. "Masochist design", "frustrating more than challenging" are certain keyphrases I have noticed. And all of them point towards this one infamous region: Hunter's March. Honestly, I do understand why. In my first playthrough, I spent about 25 hours and I still was on Act 1, lol. Call it skill issue or whatever, but this area and this design choice IS annoying more than challenging. Couple that with Hornet's pogo mechanics with the Hunter's Crest and boy oh boy, you are in for a frustrating ride that yields almost no rewarding experience.And yet I recommend this game. Why? Because honestly, beyond all this frustration lies an enticing world that is mesmerising. Really, really mesmerising. You are challenged, but you also prevail as you become stronger; as you learn the enemy patterns; as you deep dive into the lore and bond with the characters. It indeed becomes an unforgottable experience.And holy heck, the soundtracks in this game are pure eargasm. Christopher Larkin has done an incredible job breathing life into the amazing Kingdom of Pharloom.And all that for 10$ (It's 10$ in my country)? Holy heck. This indeed is an amazing experience for the price tag. For Hollow Knight fans, this is a steal. To make the experience smoother, honestly consider skipping Hunter's March in Act 1. That's all I have for you.All in all, a worth it experience with level design flaws in the act 1. I'd say a solid 9/10. Please look past all the negative reviews, memes, and all the frustration expressed by other players (they are valid), and give it a try if you were hesitant about it until now.
