GUN BROS 2 is an action-shooting game that continues the storyline of its predecessor while bringing players brand-new weapons and gameplay modes. It features a single-player mode and allows players to invite friends to team up against hordes of enemies. Facing a relentless barrage of foes, players must choose their preferred weapon from a wide variety of options, continuously shooting down approaching enemies and culminating in a final boss fight. The game offers extensive customization options, allowing players to modify their weapons with various attachments, granting them multiple firing modes and increased damage. Furthermore, each mission contains hidden armor pieces; use your wits to find them and boost your health and speed.

Story of GUN BROS 2:

Untold years after the first T.O.O.L. wars, the Tyrannical Oppressors Of Life have returned to finish the job. Only the Freakishly Rugged Advanced Genetics Galactic Enforcement Division (F.R.A.G.G.E.D) agents Percy and Francis Gun stand in their way. Armed with a new array of highly advanced and ridiculously destructive weapons, the Gun Bros are once again defending the galaxy from the T.O.O.L. insurgency. It is a time to innovate and eradicate. The last conflict has left both sides scrambling to rebuild their armories. Old Xplodium mines have been reopened and even decommissioned factories are once again roaring to life as the conflict escalates. It is up to Percy and Francis to stop this threat from reemerging with an even more devastating arsenal of killing machines. The Gun Bros are back and, once again, responsible for defending the galaxy. Luckily, they’ve got access to a host of new gear that will help them defeat T.O.O.L.

Every mission contains armor, but it’s up to you to find it and grab it. Increase your HP and SPD with bold new styles conceived by the galaxy’s top fashion designers and military experts, many of whom are the same person.

Strategies of GUN BROS 2:

Upgrades: To make your guns more powerful, you can spend war bucks (Gun Bros 2’s premium currency) and upgrade the power with which your pellets strike enemies.  The upgrades are fairly minimal, so I would conserve your war bucks for perhaps a new gun purchase rather than upgrades.  This is especially true in the early stages of the game, as you’ll be swapping to new guns quickly as you level up.  The guns that you can purchase will be much more powerful than any potential upgrades.

Modifications: Another way to make you more powerful is through gun modifications.  You’ll earn these through the crate drops throughout the game.  There are any number of different effects—the one I have equipped on my weapon is a mine which will seek out the nearest enemy.  It is nice to get some passive damage!  Each weapon has three different modification slots, which can be activated in the game in the bottom right corner over your “shooting” stick.

Know Your Speed: Sometimes it doesn’t make sense to constantly be throwing out fire towards enemies.  Especially against boss enemies with powerful area of attack firepower, ease off the shooting for a bit, bro.  When you shoot, you are also slower.  In these type of attacks, it is harder for you to dodge, and speed is critical.

Unneeded Items Are a Boon: In the normal course of play, you’ll earn a lot of armor that you simply do not need.  Sell them! This will give you much needed xplodium that you can use to purchase new weapons that will make you more formidable against opponents.

Eye on Prizes: Crates are your single most important thing in the game, outside of killing your opponents and progressing stages.  Keep an eye out when crates are dropped, because they will be the key to you earning new, better armor, gaining xplodium, and more.  They are only on the ground for a limited time, so it’s critical that you pick them up in time.

Player Comments of GUN BROS 2:

From a gameplay standpoint, Gun Bros 2 continues the standard arena-based dual-stick shooter style that genre fans should be familiar with. The game features two primary modes: Campaign and Arcade. Campaign challenges players with completing missions across a variety of locales, taking out pre-set enemy waves as fast as you can. Faster times net more valuable medals, which in turn reward more currency and experience. Crates will also randomly fall during campaign missions, which can reward armor, added experience, and added currency. Each set of missions culminates with a boss battle, and taking down that boss unlocks the next tier.

Arcade mode, meanwhile, is classic Gun Bros gameplay and challenges you to survive as long as you can against a neverending horde of enemies. Players earn experience and currency during this mode and a score mechanic allows players to challenge friends on a higher. While the goal is to eventually conquer all the missions in Campaign mode, players will spend most of their time in Unlimited, as the experience and currency flow more freely.

Speaking of currency, the dual currency system from the original Gun Bros returns in this sequel, with ‘Xplodium’ acting as the standard currency and ‘Bucks’ acting as the premium currency. Xplodium is freely earned in every mission and arcade run, although it’s important to note that players will be replaying missions and arcade mode many times in order to earn enough Xplodium to purchase new weapons. Still, with enough grinding, it’s entirely possible to earn enough Xplodium to get through most missions.

As the premium currency, Bucks are rarely earned during normal play and are primarily used to buy the more extravagant (read: overpowered) weapons of the game, and as a last resort to continue on a run if you die. However, Gun Bros 2 also uses bucks in its enemy shield system. Later missions feature shielded enemies that require weapons that have been attuned to that shield’s color in order to effectively dispatch them.

While this is an interesting twist to the strategy, attuning a weapon requires a small amount of bucks. This converts the premium currency from simply being for extravagances to being an currency of some necessity, which I think is a problem. If you don’t manage your bucks, you’ll eventually find yourself needing to excessively grind or shell out real money just to move forward and take on more complicated enemies.

While the freemium elements mostly remain unchanged, Gun Bros 2 does streamline other aspects of the game. For example, armor can no longer be directly bought; you’ll find most pieces in crates during mission mode. In addition, every time you find a new piece of armor, its power gets ‘absorbed’ and your bro earns gains more HP or speed. Finding collections of armor add even more bonuses. This means that equipping armor is exclusively an appearance issue, which works well if you find a cool-looking piece and want to keep it for awhile.
