This is a free Visual Novel about a bizarre case a private investigator is asked to work on. It has 2D cartoon graphics, with some animations such as character's mouths moving when they speak. The story has some choices which lead to multiple endings, so there is a little bit of replayability. There are no controls. You just read text, and click to go to the next page/picture.You don't play as any of the characters, as the story is told from a 3rd-person perspective. The 3 main characters are private investigator Hugo Laurent, his assistant Noah, and the client Nina Mortimer. Nina shows up at Hugo's office one morning, very distraught and looking for help. She carries a mysterious letter, addressed to her grandfather, which sounds threatening.She also says there are strange things going on at her grandfather's mansion at night. Every caretaker she hires either quits in terror, or refuses to work after sundown. Although Nina spends time at the mansion, she strangely does not experience any of the supernatural things herself. Only the caretakers experience it. Nina does mention an old family curse though.Hugo is very good at this kind of work because he secretly has an unexplained connection to the dead. He can feel them, and sometimes hear them. He also seems to be somewhat haunted himself, but we don't get any details about his personal history. That is a shame, because that would have made for a nice side plotline. As it was, the story had a few good twists to it.I found the story to be decently immersive, and could feel the suspense as I went along. The game should take between 1.25 to 1.75 hours to get both all of the endings and all of the achievements. However, the achievements do not count on your Profile, and there are neither trading cards nor Point Shop items. The game ran perfectly fine too. I experienced no bugs or glitches.

At first when I saw the game, it gave me "mystery/detective" vibes and I was right. Tho it was a bit short, it turned out to be way better then I thought. The game is quite mysterious, I especially love the ture ending, where it turned out that Hugo had a curse himself all along. The game gave me sometimes the chills which made it even more exciting to play. I also like the art and the art style, it's pretty yet mysterious which gives off the kind of "creppiness" that makes me excited. You can achieve all the endings whithin 2-3h, I hope there'll be more updates and new endings in the future.

the art of this game is super nice to look at, very smooth and the dull colors are actually pleasing to the eye. i like that the character's mouth move when they speak, it adds attention to detail and i found myself immersed in the story even though it was short. the characters are all really likeable with their own personalities.noah and hugo are two cute peas in a pod !! i wish they would make a separate game for their love story to blossom. henry's story was super sad.. i wished he could have gotten his happy ending and it would be cool to have a game from his perspective of the regret he felt towards his past lover, but overall would recommend this game, and colby is a very good boi.

Walkthrough of Stillwater:

The Bleeding Rose Inn: If you've been following Brother Joachim's paper trail, then you'll find another message from him with the innkeeper here. The message will provide a little information about the Molochean Hand, and it will indicate that Brother Joachim will find you at some point. If you leave the message open for long enough, and if you have Virgil in your group, then once again Virgil will indicate he did something bad in his past, and might have to pay for it in the future.

The Falling Hammer: Ask Richard Leeks the blacksmith about Stillwater, then about the weapons he makes, and finally if he enchants weapons himself. He'll tell you about a wizard named Cyrus, and then he'll realize he hasn't seen Cyrus in a while and ask you to check up on him. You'll find Cyrus' house to the northwest (#9). The house will be empty, but you'll find blood in the doorway and footprints leading away to the north.If you follow the footprints you'll come to Drog Black Tooth's cave, and you'll find Cyrus locked in a cell in the back. When you approach the cell, Cyrus will ask you to rescue him, but don't do it yet. About a minute after you finish talking with the wizard, Drog Black Tooth will return, and you'll have to fight him. If Cyrus is loose from his cell, then he'll join in and possibly get himself killed, thus botching the quest. So kill Drog Black Tooth first, then get the key from his corpse, and finally use the key to free Cyrus.When Cyrus runs from the cave, he'll disappear from the game, but you can still return to Leeks to receive a Stillwater blade plus 6400 experience and some positive alignment.

Altar to Geshtianna: The altar is a part of the Ancient Gods quest. In front of the altar you can speak to Brigitte, a priestess of Geshtianna. If you're polite to her she'll mention that somebody recently stole the idol to Geshtianna, and she'll ask you to look for it. The culprit is Marley (#10). If you're persuasive, you can tell him that if he gives the idol back, the priestess will bless him, and then he'll give you the key to the back room in his house, where you can find the idol. Otherwise, you'll have to steal the key or kill Marley to get it.When you carry the statue of the goddess Geshtianna in your inventory, you'll gain -3 DX, +2 BE, and +1 CH. If you return the statue to Brigitte, you'll receive a blessing worth +1 BE, plus 6400 experience (and perhaps other rewards). So some characters might want to keep the statue rather than turn it in.

Conclusion:

Overall, Stillwater is an enjoyable game, especially if you are into investigative plots. It offers a dark mystery, which is made more interesting by the well-written characters. Not only that, but it comes with visually pleasing art, which adds to the allure of the plot. The run time could have been expanded by fleshing out more characters. Nevertheless, it is a title worth picking up.
