Before playing a pick-up game or starting a season, the user can change the set difficulty, toggle tee-ball (in Pick-Up Play only), switch from 6- or 9-inning games, and toggle errors. In both modes, a player can create their own team by customizing their team's name and color and drafting 9 players from a pool of thirty characters. Regardless of that, Angela should be your pitcher. Run her into the ground as long as you can, because she'll hurt you anywhere else in the field (Pablo and Kenny are your next best pitchers, if it comes to that).

Keisha, Kenny, and Dante are your best outfield choices given their speed and fielding abilities. I would have Dante in left, Kenny in center, Keisha in right.

You're going to need Jocinda's glove anchoring your infield at first base. Pablo and Vicki should probably be at second and short, so their speed can cover the gaps.

That leaves Reese and Jorge for third base and catcher. I'd probably put Jorge at third and just pray you don't have to make any throws to home plate, because they're probably going over Reese's head.

I'd build the lineup like this: Kenny, Dante, Pablo, Keisha, Jocinda, Angela, Reese, Jorge, Vicki.

This game is better than anything EA sports has made in at least 15 years. It's sports games like this that show this genre has such unfulfilled potential! Sports games *can* be a lot of fun, if the developers actually give a damn. This game is excellent! Lots of different players with interesting stat makeups. It's fun building your 9-kid team and setting your line up. There are plenty of unique players to choose from. Some players have hidden attributes, like playing better (or worse) if their sibling is on the same team as them!The banter is funny, and the kids are always talking smack. The graphics and music have held up surprisingly well! There is decent depth to the game. You can position your fielders, approach batters differently, and there are different approaches as a better as well. There is a surprising amount of strategy in this game. It's good, since baseball is a cerebral sport. The different fields add for variation. This version doesn't have the overpowered pro players, which I don't mind. This is great game for kids, or for a child's first video game. If you played this as a kid, definitely try it again! It's a lot of fun. Definitely a bargain for the price.

Since last playing Backyard Baseball +20 years ago, I assumed coming back now would've just been a quick nostalgia trip. I'm racking up the hours since the game, while undoubtedly designed for kiddos, is still pretty enjoyable (nothing too amazing, but still super fun). The amusing variety of the players' personalities sets Backyard Sports apart so I'm hoping this studio re-releases a few more of these classic games soon.

booted this game up for the first time since my early childhood. started league play and picked as many characters as i could remember having before. took me a couple strikeouts to relearn when to swing with each character, eventually scoring two runs around the 2nd or 3rd inning. 2-0, nice! somehow, this flipped a switch in my opponents, the junior monsters. they proceeded to, by the end of the game (which i kept at default 6 innings), score 12 runs. beating me out 2-12 in MY FIRST GAME OF THE LEAGUE! what the hell dude lol anyways i just thought that was a fun story to share. this game is truly so fun and on multiple occasions i would find myself yelling like a dad coaching his kid's little league team.
