God of War 1 is a single-player action-adventure game set in Greek mythology. Players can explore six main regions of the ancient Greek world and control Kratos to battle numerous mythological enemies, experiencing an exhilarating gameplay journey. While exploring the world, players can find treasure chests of different colors to restore health, mana, and experience points, thereby upgrading weapon and magic levels and accumulating rage. When facing enemies, players can unleash divine wrath skills to make battles easier. In combat, players need to skillfully dodge enemy attacks and use their magic skills and primary and secondary weapons to block and attack, ultimately achieving victory.
God of War 1 is a third-person single player action-adventure video game with hack and slash elements, viewed from a fixed camera perspective. The player controls the character Kratos in combo-based combat, platforming, and puzzle game elements, and battles Greek mythological foes that include undead soldiers, harpies, minotaurs, Medusa and the Gorgons, cyclopes, wraiths, Sirens, satyrs, centaurs, cerberuses, and boss opponents—the Hydra and a giant minotaur known as Pandora's Guardian. Platforming elements require the player to climb walls and ladders, jump across chasms, swing on ropes, and balance across beams to proceed through sections of the game. Some puzzles are simple, such as moving a box so that the player can use it as a jumping-off point to access a pathway unreachable with normal jumping, but others are more complex, such as finding several items across different areas of the game to unlock one door.
Throughout the game world, the player finds green, blue, and red chests that contain orbs of the corresponding color. Green orbs replenish the player's health, blue orbs replenish magic, and red orbs provide experience for upgrading weapons and magic and replenish the Rage meter, which, if full, allows for the usage of the Rage of the Gods ability. Red orbs are also collected by killing foes and destroying certain inanimate objects. The player can also find Gorgon Eyes and Phoenix Feathers that increase the length of the Health and Magic Meters, respectively.
Kratos' main weapon is the Blades of Chaos: a pair of blades attached to chains wrapped around the character's wrists and forearms. In gameplay, the blades can be swung in various maneuvers. Later in the game, Kratos acquires a secondary weapon called the Blade of Artemis: a large sword that offers alternative combat options. Kratos also learns to use four magical abilities which allow him to kill individual and multiple targets: Zeus' Fury, which allows him to throw lightning bolts at distant targets, Medusa's Gaze, which turns enemies to stone, Poseidon's Rage, which summons lightning from the sky and damaging enemies within its radius, and Army of Hades, which summons souls of the dead to attack enemies. A relic called Poseidon's Trident allows Kratos to breathe underwater and navigate through this environment. Early in the game, Kratos acquires a special ability called Rage of the Gods, which provides temporary invulnerability and increased attack damage. In combat, a quick time event (QTE) is initiated when the player has weakened a strong foe. The player performs a sequence of actions on the game controller shortly after an image of its circle button appears as an on-screen prompt. This allows for limited control of Kratos during a QTE cinematic sequence, which, if successful, ends the battle; failure usually results in damaging Kratos.

A Mythological Tragedy Retold: At its heart, the original God of War 1 is a tale of woe. It chronicles Kratos’s journey, a servant of the Olympian deities, as he is compelled to slay Ares, the God of War. The story unfolds with expert pacing, starting amidst the churning waters of the Aegean and guiding players through the treacherous Desert of Lost Souls, culminating in an ascent up the colossal Temple of Pandora, which is itself perched upon the back of the Titan Cronos.Replaying this story on a mobile device through emulation allows players to appreciate the game’s ambitious scope. The fixed camera angles, often criticized in modern design, were a deliberate artistic choice. This choice allowed the developers to show Kratos in relation to the massive structures of the ancient world.
The Blades of Chaos: Combat Perfection: The God of War 1 series’ combat system set a standard for action games. The Blades of Chaos, which are permanently attached to Kratos’s arms, create a rhythmic, almost dance-like quality in the game’s violence. The combination of light and heavy attacks, along with the ability to grab and launch enemies, creates a combat loop that is easy to learn but requires skill to master.
Solving the Temple of Pandora: Beyond the battles, God of War 1 offers a world of puzzles. The Temple of Pandora, for instance, is a colossal, intricate machine. To move forward, players need to shove blocks, turn cranks, and avoid lethal traps. These sections serve as a welcome respite from the game’s relentless action.

You're going to need patience: Before even launching the game, you'll want to ensure that you have the patience to do this to make sure that your monitor and control pad/mouse & keyboard survive your journey. This challenge will involve getting one-shot, and they’ll come at you multiple times throughout the early game. And — unlike Kratos — rage will not be useful in your run. The angrier you get, the more mistakes you'll make, thus the angrier you'll get...
It's hardest at the start: As I said earlier, early on in your run enemies will be able to one- or two-shot you whilst you face three or four Draugr at a time. This eventually smooths out as you get more Idunn Apples and increase your maximum health, and it pretty much stops at Alfheim. Thus, the real challenge of "Give me God of War" is reaching Alfheim. Although the game doesn't become a cakewalk afterwards, the early stages are certainly the harshest and the rest will feel significantly more forgiving thenceforth.
Use ranged fighting as necessary: I know that part of the fun of God of War is pretending you are an irate lumberjack that has lost his marbles, but unfortunately, that won't always work in the early game. Although I don't recommend cheesing the game and fighting with kiting tactics, there isn't necessarily a rule against it either. Take down enemies with low health at a safe distance instead of putting yourself in the uncomfortable position of charging at them head-on.
Learn to parry and dodge reliably: Originally, I was going to suggest simply learning how to parry and forsake dodging; however, the truth is that dodging has its uses, especially against unblockable attacks. You need to learn when it will be preferable to block foes and when to dodge; sometimes, you will have to do a different action per attack that each enemy has. The sooner you learn quick reflexes, animations, and in which circumstance to do them, the sooner you'll stop having needless deaths.
Forsake vitality: I know that it's tempting to build vitality and defence to outlive your enemies and make it less frustrating to take a blow, but the truth is that the faster a fight is over in "Give me God of War", the fewer errors you will have to prevent. Regardless of how much vitality and defence you built, the fight will be over in just a few hits and mistakes. The lower your life, the more your adrenaline and fear builds, which leads to inevitable mistakes; an aggressive stance will assist at preventing fights from dragging on forever and making each encounter needlessly long which will force you to play more flawlessly for extended periods.

God of War 2018 ain’t your standard linear game, but it’s not a full open world either, it’s that wide-linear semi-open vibe. First time I’ve tried this kind of design, n it still plays pretty solid all around. The combat moves n cinematic set pieces are both super well put together. Only catch is 100% completion’s kinda a hassle, n the fast travel points aren’t convenient at all, so late game backtracking gets pretty tedious.Still, for a 2018 drop it totally holds up even today. I’m a huge fan of Norse mythology themes myself, plus it took home TGA GOTY back then. All in all it’s definitely worth checking out.
Very nice game. 9/10.The starting of the game was simply epic. It set ups the mood of the game and the tone of the game. The story is also very good. We can feel the chemistry between Atreus and Kratos. The ending of the game was also very good. The last battle was epic and the emotions it carried was also good. The bond between characters felt touching. The game is indeed very good but it has flaws. The major flaw I felt was that in the middle of the game many time I fought with same bosses which felt repetitive. Like the one with rock, he just attacks with its big rock and legs. It was 6-7 times in the game with slightly different attribute. And the ice monster too it throw ice from middle. He also appeared 3-4 times. It makes the game a bit repetiting. If there were new and cool bosses everytime it would have been great. Plus there is a slow pace in middle of the game.Except these things the game is good. And I forgot to say one thing. I am the GHOST OF SPARTA.
Never say Never, for years PS fanboys were bragging about God of War, Ratchet & Clank, TLOU, HZD, Ghost of Tsushima ect. When I saw GOW 2018 on Steam I was Speechless I couldn't believe my eyes. This is an incredible Victory for gamers Around the World. We Only Need a way to Backup our games, Roll Back Updates and be able to play them offline if steam goes downhill or servers shut down, world emergency or something... I need to feel that I own my games. Also F you Sony for Ending physical Media on 2028.
Great combat and engaging story, the characters main characters are relatable, well written and have great voice actors behind them. There are plenty of strong enemies that dont block story progression but are available to those who want the challenge.I'm constantly deciding between doing side quest and exploring and continuing the main quest line.Gaining new powers unlocks areas you have already been to, making the open world dynamic and worth revisiting. there is plenty of armor customization and abilities to unlock and upgrade.Hooked on the game after a few hours of playing.Definately worth the time and money.
God of War 1 works surprisingly well on mobile, carrying over its rough, heavy style of combat and the unmistakable rhythm of the Chaos Blades. The Android version is free and keeps the controls simple, whether you stick to touch input or plug in a gamepad. The 3D visuals remain functional enough to sell the weight of each fight, and the pacing stays sharp—quick encounters, focused layouts, and myth-driven battles that don’t overstay their welcome.
