God of War: Ghost of Sparta is a third-person action-adventure game where players control Kratos on an adventure through Greek mythology. Players can experience exhilarating combat and utilize various unique items and environmental elements to solve puzzles and earn rewards. Building upon its predecessor, the game adds new weapons and magical abilities. Players can wield their favorite weapons, employing skillful movement and magical abilities to defeat colossal enemies and unlock corresponding death animations. The game also features a Gods' Challenge mode, where players face challenging tasks such as defeating enemies without being attacked. Can you push your limits and complete these challenges?
Resembling its predecessors, the Ghost of Sparta emerges as a mono player gaming quest as seen through a preset camera perspective. As a player of the game, you are tasked with the responsibility to navigate and control Kratos throughout the adventure. Traversing across the Atlantis region, you get to enjoy puzzle, platforming, hack, slash, etc., elements while combating the antagonists. Some of the nastiest ones include Harpies, Cyclopes, Gorgons, Minotaurs, and Satyrs from Greek mythology.
Introducing the platform-based gameplay elements, the player needs to swing on ropes, climb walls, balance across beams and jump across chasms to advance through different segments of the game. The puzzle elements are a mix of simple and complex tasks.
Some may be as easy as shifting a box to clear a pathway, while others may take you on a search of collectibles to unlock doors. The quest further houses some exclusive magical powers, navigation capacities, and new combat weapons that were absent in the previous entrants of the God of War series.

Kratos: The main character of the game, who is unknowingly a former demigod, and now the current God of War and former Spartan General who was tricked into killing his family by his former master Ares, and suffers horrible nightmares as a result, which he seeks to erase.
Athena: The Goddess of Wisdom who guides Kratos throughout his journey and warns him about alienating the Gods. Flashbacks reveal that she and Ares were the ones who captured Deimos and sent him to the Domain of Death to be tortured for eternity.
Deimos: Kratos' long-lost and believed dead brother, and as well as a demigod himself like Kratos (formerly), who is revealed to be alive and still imprisoned in the Domain of Death. He is killed by Thanatos at the end of the game.
Ares: Kratos' former master and first God of War who was killed by Kratos himself in retribution for his family's death. Flashbacks reveal he and Athena as the abductors of Deimos.
Lanaeus: A servant of The Ocean God Poseidon charged with machinery in Atlantis and Methano Volcano.
Grave Digger: A mysterious man (revealed to be Zeus in disguise) who had also helped Kratos in his quest to kill Ares. He first appears when Kratos approaches Methano Volcano and also warns him to cease his quest and not alienate the Gods. He later appears at the end of the game when he buries Deimos and Callisto and also digs out a third grave, presumably for Kratos, when he remarks "Now only one remains".
King Midas: A former king who has the ability to turn anything or anyone into gold the moment he touches them. He turned his daughter into gold which made him very miserable.
Callisto: Kratos' long-lost and believed dead mother who had been taken to Atlantis by Zeus and was held there till found by Kratos. She was cursed by Zeus to prevent her from telling Kratos who his father was, if she told the truth she would be transformed into monstrous beast. She does attempt to tell him later on and as a result is forced to battle her son after which she is killed.

Train Your Muscle Memory Right: You’re going to notice that attacks come with four different colors, and knowing what to expect when each one is displayed can help you prepare your response without really thinking about it. Look at it like a sort of rock-paper-scissors situation, and you’re golden.A red attack must be met with a dodge, allowing you to reposition and get in a few hits of your own. A blue attack must be blocked while a yellow one can be parried to get your enemy off balance. A purple attack must be avoided at all costs. Internalize the colors and you’ll find yourself reacting to your opponents just as a Spartan would, with your reflexes taking over in the heat of battle.
Know Your Enemy Drops: Like enemy attacks, the drops you can obtain from them once are tied to the type of attacks you hit them with. For instance, landing basic attacks nets you yellow orbs that refill your Spirit meter, allowing you to dish out more stun damage via Spartan Spirit attacks. Those attacks net green orbs that provide health.Since all of your orbs are absorbed automatically, irrespective of whether you need them or not, paying attention to your health, spirit, and magic is important to sustaining your attack potential over the course of a fight. Red orbs drop naturally upon defeating enemies, while blue ones drop from enemies that use magic attacks.
Know When To Back Off: Remember when we said that blue attacks need to be blocked? That’s a good time to reset spacing and regain your rhythm, adjusting your spacing just about enough to ensure that you can punish your opponent’s recovery animations once you do.It can be easy to just back away completely out of attack range, acting on instinct instead of using the moment to try building up stun or perhaps unleashing a devastating counterattack. A true Spartan stands their ground while using their enemy’s own moves against them, after all.
Know When To Go In For The Kill: You should be treating every yellow attack as an opportunity to show your foes exactly why they should fear you in the moment and for a long time after. Parrying is a great way to shift the momentum of a fight in your favor and keep it that way for as long as your enemy is still standing.Getting the timing down means that you’re not just avoiding damage, but actively opening up your foes to stuns and powerful counterattacks, unleashing your might on them before they even realize that they’ve made a grave mistake coming after you. The best warriors don’t just wait for opportunities, but create them on the fly.
Abuse The Stun Mechanic: There are many ways to stun your opponents, and you should be looking to do that as much as you can if you want to come out on top of each fight. Your shield is a good place to start, allowing you to learn how to block or parry effectively while building up your opponent’s stun bar. Spirit attacks are another great option, and mixing them in from time to time as you get the chance to do so is going to help.Aside from these easy-to-access methods for stunning, charged, strong attacks, any environmental hazards, specific skills that are tailored for stuns, and of course, an upgraded spear are all options to let you get your opponent to the ground and let you unleash your highest DPS attack to close things out. Just be intentional about it, and you’re going to find that most enemies in the game are unable to withstand the incoming onslaught.

Ghost of Sparta is gorgeous. Graphically, it looks better than a big chunk of PS2 games, and is absolutely the best-looking game on the PSP thus far. Detailed environments featuring constant rain and cascading water and lava create beautiful backdrops and really bring the world to life. Kratos looks wonderful as well. In fact, his character model was rebuilt from the ground up to add more detail for this game, such as the fact that he can be bathed in blood during battle, like he could in God of War III.
As far as the gameplay is concerned, there's nothing super unique here, but that's not a bad thing. You'll still spend your time slaying countless enemies, traversing dangerous domains, and solving light puzzles. Combat has been perfected throughout the series, so there's not a lot to improve upon, and too much change would have been jarring. That said, there is a brand new weapon and two new magical attacks that add something new to the experience.
Kratos starts the game with the Blades of Athena, which function exactly like blades do in the other games, including the special moves. However, you unlock the ability to add fire to the blades. Known as Thera's Bane, this power functions similar to the Rage of Sparta in God of War III, with its own separate meter (which replenishes over time) and the ability to activate or deactivate it at will. One important difference, though, is that Thera's Bane is necessary for more than just adding power to your attacks. Doors and other obstacles require the power in order to be destroyed, and it's also necessary to break through the armor of certain enemies.
The other weapon you acquire later in the game is the classic spear and shield known as the Arms of Sparta. This combo is one of the most diverse I've seen in the series as it serves as both a ranged and melee weapon with Kratos able to throw the spear at distant enemies or perform a succession of quick jabs up close. The shield can be slammed into enemies in addition to its blocking duties, and most importantly, Kratos can move while blocking with the shield, giving it functionality outside of battle such as walking into fire or freezing wind.
The two new magical attacks in the game are the Eye of Atlantis and the Scourge of Erinys. The former is a lightning attack and isn't terribly unique. The latter, however, is a much more creative ball of energy that sucks nearby enemies into it and occasionally delivers green orbs to Kratos in the process.
God of War: Ghost of Sparta is more than just a mobile port; it is a definitive action-RPG experience that captures the raw power and tragic soul of Kratos. If you are looking for a game that combines a gripping story with relentless action and breathtaking scale, this is a must-have for your collection. Prepare to defy the gods, challenge destiny, and embrace the power of the Ghost of Sparta.
