Doki Doki Literature Club is a story-driven casual game where players control an Minecraft character who joins the Doki Doki Literature Club and experiences a shared story world and fun mini-games with the other three members. Players must choose appropriate words from various options to create beautiful poems for each girl. Depending on the words chosen, the girls will react differently, leading the story in different directions. Will you ultimately find your love? The game also features several interesting side stories, allowing players to gain a deeper understanding of the relationships between the four club members and the entire process of the literature club's formation, thus enhancing the game's world-building.
The protagonist is invited by his cheerful best friend Sayori to join their high school's literature club as a remedy for his introversion. He meets the other members: assertive Natsuki, shy Yuri, and confident president Monika. Each day, the members write and share poems. As the club prepares for the upcoming cultural festival, Sayori confides that she has depression. The protagonist either helps Natsuki bake cupcakes or Yuri paint banners; each girl attempts to kiss him. Afterward, he can either confess his love to Sayori or reaffirm his friendship. The next day, Monika shows the protagonist a morbid poem by Sayori consisting only of the phrase "get out of my head". Rushing to her home, the protagonist finds she has hanged herself, and the game abruptly ends.
The player is sent back to the menu, with all previous save files erased. Upon starting a new game, the story restarts without Sayori, and the other characters have no memory of her; Monika introduces the protagonist to the club in lieu of Sayori. Events proceed similarly to the original playthrough, but illegible text, distorted character sprites, and other anomalies become commonplace.Dialogue and unlockable "special poems" reveal that Natsuki is malnourished and being abused by her father, while Yuri grows unstable, obsessive, and prone to self-harm. During planning for the cultural festival, an argument erupts over whom the protagonist will help; the player is forced to choose Monika. Yuri ejects Monika and Natsuki from the room, confesses her love for the protagonist, and fatally stabs herself regardless of the response. The game's broken script forces the protagonist to watch her body decompose over the weekend. When Natsuki returns, she flees in horror and nausea. Monika apologizes for the "boring" weekend, deletes Yuri's and Natsuki's character files, and returns the player to the menu.
A new file begins with the protagonist alone with Monika in what remains of the literature club classroom. She reveals she is a self-aware video game character who can manipulate the game's code. Upset at only being a supporting character, she amplified the other girls' negative traits to make them unlikable, yet failed to stop them from pursuing the protagonist. She then obsessively confesses her own love not to the protagonist, but to the real-life player. Monika will talk indefinitely about various topics until the player deletes her character file from the game directory. She lashes out as she disappears, but ultimately forgives the player and restores the game and characters, excluding herself.
Two possible endings follow depending on the player's actions. In the standard ending, Sayori becomes the club president and thanks the player for dispelling Monika, gaining self-awareness. Monika intervenes via text prompt and deletes her. Realizing that her efforts to make amends have failed, Monika deletes the entire game during the end credits while playing the song "Your Reality". A note from Monika states she has disbanded the club because "no happiness can be found in it", yet thanks the player for joining. A more positive ending occurs if the player viewed all the optional cutscenes and confessed to Sayori before her suicide. Though self-aware, Sayori thanks the player for supporting everyone, tearfully bids farewell, and affirms the members' love. Monika plays "Your Reality" without deleting the game. After the credits, a message from creator Dan Salvato explains his intentions and thanks the player. A premature ending occurs if Monika's file is deleted before a new game. Sayori becomes president, realizes the game's nature, and closes it in a panic. Reopening the game shows an image of her hanged; after ten minutes, the words "now everyone can be happy" appear.

The Game Deals With Some Dark Themes... So Beware: At a glance, Doki Doki Literature Club seems like a run-of-the-mill visual novel with cute characters who have interesting personalities of their own. For the most part, players would assume that their main motive is to select the character of their choice and engage in a bit of romance with them. However, keep in mind that Doki Doki Literature Club's cute aesthetic is nothing more than a facade that hides the real twisted personalities of its characters. There are several mature themes that are dealt with throughout the game, such as self-harm, suicide, abuse, jealousy, and everything else along the same lines.
Just Go Into This Game As Blind As Possible For Your First Experience: This might seem counterproductive to the point of this article, but new players should ideally go into Doki Doki Literature Club as blind as possible. It's the best way to encounter the events of the game with a fresh mind. This way, the scares are more impactful and make for a riveting experience. Players can always check out guides after they're done with their first playthrough, after all.
Don't Be Taken Aback By The Horror: As stated, Doki Doki Literature Club is a way darker game than what most people would assume. This applies to its horror as well, which comes out of nowhere and can scare the wits out of an unsuspecting player. If players really wish to try out this phenomenal game but don't have an appetite for horror, then they should be aware of the U-turn Doki Doki Literature Club makes in terms of its genre. It turns from a cutesy dating sim into an outright horror title that tells a mesmerizing and eerie story through the medium of video games.
Choosing Words While Writing Poems Have Different Effects On: Given the fact that the main character joins the Literature Club, it goes without saying that a big part of the game is writing down poems that the player can show to the other characters in the club. These poems have a hidden mechanic that players should be aware of if they wish to romance a particular girl in the game.Basically, players have access to a set of keywords that they can use while writing their poems. These words have different positive effects on each character, and players who want to date a particular girl should write down a poem that appeals to them specifically.

Incredible game. I remember playing it years ago and being amazed by it's creativity as well as it's uniqueness. Replaying it after such a long time felt so nostalgic and warming. The game still has it's charm and it's absolutely wonderful. Thank you for the creation of this game to everyone involved and for this unforgetable experience.
Doki Doki Literature Club** is one of those games that completely catches you off guard. It starts off slow, looking like just another cute visual novel, and honestly, I was expecting exactly that. Then the first ending hits... and from that point on it's just "what the actual is happening?"Every single time I thought I had figured the game out, it pulled the rug out from under me. I was wrong almost every time. The only things I managed to catch were how Yuri and Sayori each preferred different words in the poems, but beyond that? The game absolutely destroyed every expectation I had.And those two "endings".... Hearing Monika say my real name genuinely freaked me out. Then seeing what she did *after* I had already deleted her was somehow even more terrifying. The game constantly toys with you, breaks the fourth wall, and makes you question what it's going to do next.I'm already excited to replay it and mess around with deleting different characters just to see what the happens. I know there's still stuff I've missed.10/10. What the did I just play... and why do I already want to experience it all over again?
The real horror of Doki Doki Literature Club isn’t what happens after the game starts breaking. It’s being shown a standard of living that exists somewhere in the universe, only to realize that you’ll probably never experience anything like it yourself in real life.
great game, possibly one of the best i've ever played. it's story is incredibly sad, but it makes you think about how you never know what people are going through, or the burdens they carry. please, if you're not in a bad mental state, play this game. it's life changing.

First, play through the game blindly. What I mean is that during occasional segments, you are asked to compose a poem based on words they give you. Right now for your first play through, just randomly choose words and go with the story.
After you reach “END”, you’ll find all your game saves deleted and the words “New Game” replaced by some technical jumble. Click on it to begin the second half of your first play through. Continue on with the story until you reach what you see in that picture of Monika.
Wait until she mentions “staring into each other’s eyes” and wait for a bit until the next batch of text appears. At that point, quit the game. At this point you may reload the game up again to get some bonus dialogue, but it doesn’t effect your game play. If you did indeed reload, quit out again.
Head to your game files, and enter the characters folder. Delete Monika’s file and reload the game once again. Follow the story and you’ll return to the main menu.
Click “new game” and go along with the story once again. Any choices that appear don’t matter as you will end up with the same ending.
View the end credits, and uninstall the game. The easiest way to do this is via Steam. Reinstall the game for a fresh and brand new start.
The Three Girls: Sayori,Natsuki,Yuri.
In order to achieve the “true” ending, you must have ALL the CG images by the time you reach the end credits, which then dialogue will indicate that you have done so.
You have now uninstalled and reinstalled the game from Steam for a fresh and brand new start. Go with the story and SAVE THIS AS YOU FIRST LOAD once you reach the poem selection scene. Now you need to gear your poems towards the heroines to get their two CG pictures. Do this for the first two days to receive them. The third day won’t matter.
Her words are as follows: Adventure, Alone, Amazing, Awesome, Bed, Beauty, Bliss, Broken, Calm, Charm, Cheer, Childhood, Clumsy, Color, Comfort, Cry, Dance, Dark, Daydream, Dazzle, Death, Defeat, Depression, Embrace, Empty, Excitement, Extraordinary, Family, Fear, Feather, Fireflies, Fireworks, Flower, Flying, Forgive, Friends, Fun, Grief, Happiness, Heart, Holiday, Hope, Hopeless, Hurt, Joy, Laugh, Lazy, Loud, Love, Lucky, Marriage, Memories, Misery, Misfortune, music, Nature, Ocean, Passion, Peaceful, Pain, Party, Play, Prayer, Precious, Promise, Rainbow, Raincloud, Romance, Rose, Sadness, Scars, Shame, Sing, Smile, Sparkle, Special, Sunny, Sunset, Sweet, Tears, Together, Tragedy, Treasure, Unrequited, Vacation, Warm, Wonderful
On the third day, you’re given a choice whenever to hang out with either one of the four girls, but only Natsuki or Yuri’s choice will advance the game. You can choose either.
On the weekend choice, you’re given a 2nd choice. Click “I love you.” After you reach the scene where Sayori hugs the protagonist, save your game NOW as your second load, and reload your first load, or else you’ll reach “that” scene and will be forced to play through Monika’s route again (which you don’t want).
Reload your first save after saving at Sayori hugging the protagonist as your first save.
This time, gear your two poems towards Natsuki. Her words are: Anger, Anime, Blanket, Boop, Bouncy, Bubbles, Bunny, Candy, Cheeks, Chocolate, Clouds, Cute, Doki doki, Games, Giggle, Email, Fantasy, Fluffy, Hair, Hop, Headphones, Heartbeat, Jump, Jumpy, Lipstick, Kawaii, Kiss, Kitty, Lollipop, Marshmallow, Melody, Milk, Mouse, Nibble, Nightgown, Papa, Parfait, Peace, Pink, Playground, Poof, Pout, Pure, Puppy, Ribbon, Swimsuit, Shiny, Shopping, Skipping, Socks, Spinning, Sticky, Strawberry, Sugar, Summer, Twirl, Waterfall, Whisper, Whistle, Valentine, Vanilla
At the hangout selection, choose Natsuki for convenient consistency. You can skip her dialogue if you already had already read it during Sayori’s route.
After receiving the baking CGs, save this as your third save, and reload your first save again.
After receiving the baking CGs with Natsuki, save that as your third save, and reload up your first save for poem selection and gear it towards Yuri.

At the hangout selection, choose Yuri for convenient consistency. You can skip her dialogue if you already had already read it during Sayori’s route.
Keep going for this one. No saving required. Once you reach “END”, you’ll jump into the “true, best, and final” version of Monika’s ending.
