Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba
Introduction

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is an action game adapted from the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba arc, from the Entertainment District arc to the Pillar Training arc. Players can continue their journey against demons with Minecraft in the story mode, or form two-person teams with dozens of characters to challenge new levels and players from around the world. Each character has unique skill sets, equipment, special moves, and costumes. You can change the outfits of your favorite characters to make them even cooler. In battle, you'll need not only skillful movement but also to unleash your character's skills at the right time to defeat your opponents and win.

Gameplay:

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is a third-person action arena fighting game with two modes: Solo Play Mode and Versus Mode. Solo Play Mode's plot is based on the second, third, and fourth seasons of the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba anime series, in which Tanjiro Kamado joins the Demon Slayer Corps after his family is brutally murdered by a demon, save for his sister Nezuko. The story features some exploration elements, and is told through various cutscenes and boss battles with demons seen in the anime series. Versus Mode allows players to form teams of two fighters from 40 different characters and battle CPU opponents or other people. The game supports both local and online multiplayer.

In addition, a character pass DLC for the first installment of the Infinity Castle trilogy was released in October 30, 2025 and ran until May 2026.

Useful Tips:

You don’t need to watch the Memory Fragments to advance to the next chapter, but you will miss important plot details and the characters' backgrounds if you skip those fragments.

You can skip most cutscenes by holding a button (the Circle on PlayStation systems). This is useful when you lose a fight and you want to quickly jump back to it.

Except for the Prologue, all the chapters have Special Missions. They come in two difficulties: normal and hard. You first need to complete the mission in the former to unlock the latter.

There are a lot of variables that will decide which rank you get after winning a fight: the extension of your combos, the times you do special attacks and Ultimate Arts, how many seconds does the match lasts, and more.

The fastest way to get an S rank is to finish a battle without receiving any damage. However, you can also earn one by doing long combos, activating Boost and Surge, correctly performing your Ultimate Art, and finishing the fight as soon as possible.

Some story battles are more forgiving than others and you can still get the best rank with half of your health gauge or less.

If you didn’t get the rank that you wanted in a mission, don’t worry. You can replay it all the times you want from the Main Story menu.

While playing Special Missions, if you already have received too much damage and you think you won’t get an S rank, you can restart the battle from the pause menu.

Parrying is a great mechanic to learn while fighting normal demons. You can end battles pretty quickly by doing a perfect parry and pressing the indicated button when prompted.

While you can't spam the parry move quickly, once activated the movement's window is a bit generous. Try to train it while fighting normal demons.

Player Comments:

Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles 2 takes the foundation of the first game and turns it into a broader, more confident adaptation of Tanjiro Kamado’s continuing journey. Developed by CyberConnect2 and published by SEGA, the game remains an action-focused arena fighter with a substantial story component. Rather than radically changing the established formula, the sequel concentrates on expanding the character roster, adapting later portions of the anime, improving the variety of activities, and delivering the spectacular presentation expected from a Demon Slayer game. It is clearly built with existing fans in mind, but its straightforward controls also make it approachable for players without extensive fighting-game experience.

The story mode covers the Entertainment District, Swordsmith Village, and Hashira Training arcs, allowing players to experience several important stages in Tanjiro’s development. These chapters bring stronger demons, increasingly capable allies, and more prominent involvement from the Hashira. The campaign alternates between narrative sequences, exploration, smaller encounters, and major battles. It succeeds particularly well when recreating pivotal confrontations, where gameplay and cinematic presentation combine to make familiar scenes feel interactive rather than simply reproduced from the anime.

Exploration provides some breathing room between battles, although it remains relatively guided. Environments offer opportunities to move around, complete objectives, interact with characters, and pursue additional activities, but they are primarily designed to carry the player toward the next important story event. Anyone expecting an open-world Demon Slayer adventure may find this structure restrictive. However, the more focused approach keeps the campaign centered on its strongest elements and prevents long stretches of travel from overwhelming the combat and storytelling.

Fighting remains the heart of the experience. Characters battle inside three-dimensional arenas using regular attacks, special techniques, defensive actions, movement options, assists, and cinematic ultimate abilities. The control scheme prioritizes accessibility, making it possible to create impressive sequences without memorizing complicated directional commands. That simplicity does not eliminate strategy. Timing attacks correctly, conserving resources, understanding defensive options, using assists effectively, and recognizing an opponent’s habits become increasingly important against stronger enemies and human players.

The expanded roster gives the sequel considerably more personality. The presence of additional Hashira and other major characters allows players to experiment with different fighting styles and team combinations. Breathing techniques and Blood Demon Arts are represented through elaborate animations that capture the distinctive qualities of individual combatants. CyberConnect2 has paid particular attention to the visual identity of attacks, ensuring that powerful techniques feel appropriately dramatic. Even characters sharing similar underlying mechanics can feel different because of their movement, range, abilities, animations, and support potential.

Versus play gives the game value beyond its campaign. Local multiplayer works especially well for casual competition because newcomers can quickly understand the basic controls, while online PvP provides a more demanding environment. Fighting another player reveals weaknesses that are easier to ignore against predictable opponents. Repeated attacks become punishable, defensive timing matters more, and intelligent use of support characters can determine the outcome of a close battle. The fighting system may not possess the extreme complexity of traditional competitive fighters, but it contains enough tactical depth to reward players who invest time in mastering it.

Training content also helps broaden the experience. Players can engage with structured challenges and different encounters instead of relying entirely on conventional practice matches. This gives character experimentation a stronger sense of progression and provides another activity for those who have completed substantial portions of the story. Achievements, unlockable content, statistics, leaderboards, collectibles, and other completion-oriented elements further encourage continued play.

Conclusion:

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba delivers a faithful and visually stunning adaptation of Tanjiro’s next arcs with a larger roster, flashy Dual Ultimates, and new gameplay modes. While it shines in presentation and fan service, it still suffers from shallow combat and repetitive mechanics. Fans of the anime will enjoy the experience, but deeper gameplay would make it more enduring.
