Changelog:

Hey all! Quick check-in as part of my promise for more frequent devlogs.

As you can see, the update is right around the corner, but not there just yet. Writing and rendering finished recently, and I got the proofers a nice, juicy copy of the update. Reception was overall pretty good, but there are some areas and scenes where it can use a bit of extra love.

Progress since last devlog:

69 (nice) new renders

1 new animation

1 new environment

All events written

All event rendered

Proof reading completed

What's left? I have some writing changes and additions to plan out, complete, and proof, as well as the renders and (maybe) animations that accompany it. I don't foresee it taking too many days of work to finish that, but it is, by far, the biggest hurdle left on the way to the update's release. After that, it's finishing all the coding left to do, such as sandbox, gallery, and android porting.

It's been a longer ride than I wanted, but expect a release date post coming in the next few days! Thank you all for the support!

Player Comments of Oppai Odyssey:

Surprisingly good, despite the stupid name that would generally turn me away from it. It sounds like some AI dogshit you'd see on Steam.

Kind of underrated, honestly; it's a bit stiff at the start, but by and large, this is better written than the majority of VNs on this site, although with some hiccups. The characters have depth, but in some cases it feels... fairly sudden. There's definitely a sense that some characters have somewhat sudden shifts in personality/backstory/role in the story.

Honestly, the most remarkable shift, what makes me want to reduce the rating, is probably how Lym is treated, because holy shit, if her experiences were treated realistically, she'd be having WAY more of a breakdown than is ever depicted. Like, she's pretty much abused by the entire cast after a certain point, so consider this a warning if you like her at the start. You can't even really choose to treat her better or demonstrate empathy. It's kind of fucked up. Bitches have roped themselves for less than what she goes through. That sounds really dramatic, and fundamentally, she is "wrong" regarding the issue that causes the friction, but that's not really all the MC puts her through. It's genuinely kind of messed up and creepy; it makes no difference, but with dialogue selections you can also frame any "making up" as pure manipulation. I have no idea what she did to the dev but I hope they can forgive her.

Nyx is kind of connected to this, which is probably why some people really hate her. Unfortunately, she is great. Believe it or not, if you're into dom stuff, her submit route is probably the best depiction of that kind of relationship in a VN I've seen, and it's way more satisfying to make someone proud consent to that kind of relationship than it is some helpless teenager, like most depictions. Her pivoting suddenly to, functionally, being the main heroine, also probably pissed some people off. But honestly, unless you're just kind of insecure, she's not nearly as bad as people make her out to be, outside of one really stupid scene early on where she gets away with something that doesn't make total sense. Like a lot of early blunders, it's easy to forget it later on when she improves and shows more of herself.

The rest of the core cast feel somewhat lesser in focus, but I like them all, except maybe Noel. Nothing wrong with Noel, she's just a bit... normal, in comparison, I dunno. A type issue. For the most part, everyone gets plenty of content.

The ongoing narrative is kind of a Mass Effect-ish type situation after a certain point, and it's generally good, although some steps feel like they are rushed past, like the premise for the warpgate situation. Still, I'm interested to see what happens enough that I don't mind when the gratuitous character scenes are halted for the main plot.

Visually it's probably one of the best HS games, for sure. Some people know how to frame a scene (intimate or not) and some do not. Character designs are all pretty fantastic and there's a lot of diversity in their designs.

Pretty easy to skip stuff you don't want to see, but if you're a little gay, there's a femboy for you, as an example. I wouldn't say it's super diverse as it's... mostly, dom/breeding with optional femdom, but if those tags are your thing, you'll be eating good.

Harem makes sense, mostly, except Lym. Everybody is pretty cool with it and there's mutual attraction within, which is good, but I'm pretty sure you can avoid the MFF stuff if you don't like that for some reason... maybe.

Like I said, kind of underrated, because I've read way worse shit with higher ratings; worse in how the text is composed, worse visually, worse characters, etc. I think Nyx really was too much for a lot of dudes, but that's not super surprising. Frankly, if you can handle, like, a basic tsundere for 2-3~ hours without screaming at your computer monitor and breaking down into sobs, you'll be fine. She really grew on me.

Conclusion:

You command your crew and choose which planets and encounters to pursue, balancing exploration with the personal relationships aboard your ship. Interactions with crewmates and alien species unfold through animated scenes, with your choices shaping how far those bonds develop.
