Let me set the tone for how epic the story of Surviving With My Daughter could have been. It takes place in a future that is ruled by The Nemesis Corporation. They basically control everything and we have a man and his wife that work for them and are about to have a baby. Well, The Nemesis Corporation demands that everyone needs to have this ID chip type thing implanted in them. The wife freaks out, kills the doctor and then they are on the run for several years, trying to survive! How awesome is that? I read that description and I was like “hell yeah” this is going to be fantastic and I was so excited to play the game.
The problem with Surviving With My Daughter is that this epic premise is let down by some rather shoddy writing. It overexplains some things and just flat out ignores others. It makes it a story that is very hard to get into and within the first ten minutes, we are left with so many plot holes and questions that are left unanswered. The fact that the story has a time jump so that the daughter is “of age” means that there are all kinds of things that make very little or no sense at all. It is a real bummer too as the premise was something that got me hooked.
Man, I really feel like all I am doing is ragging on Surviving With My Daughter, but I do have to be honest. The visuals here are some of the strangest I have ever seen. I am not into the whole incest thing at all, but even if I was, the fact that the characters are always smiling is a real turn off! That may sound weird, but we have them talking about all this horrible stuff that is going down in this world, but they are smiling the whole time. To be honest with you it is kind of unnerving and disturbing, kind of like that movie Smile! There are a few lewd scenes here and they are animated decent enough, but you will have no investment into them at all when you watch them.
As I said, Surviving With My Daughter is a game that has been abandoned so it is not the kind of thing that is going to be taking up much of your time at all. You are probably looking at ten minutes, maybe fifteen to get to the end of what they did here. It is your standard lewd visual novel where you need to just follow the story. I am not sure if they planned to add in a whole bunch of choices and branching paths or anything like that here. The fact that what we have here is so short is probably a blessing to be honest with you!
