PS4 Second Screen connects your PS4 to your device, allowing you to start your gaming journey simply by logging into your account. It uses your mobile device as a second screen, providing a fresh perspective and enhancing your gaming experience. However, users should note that some games are not compatible with Second Screen and will need to check for compatibility. Beyond games, users can also input text on their mobile device and display it on other screens, offering even more convenience.
PS4 Second Screen serves as more than just a remote. Users can navigate the PS4 home screen, access menus, and quickly input text using their device’s keyboard—particularly helpful for messaging friends or searching the PlayStation Store. For supported games, the app can display supplementary information, such as maps or inventory, offering an immersive multi-screen experience during gameplay.
Another highlight is the ability to use your mobile device as a simplified controller. Basic navigation and playback controls are available, which is especially useful for quick tasks when the main controller isn’t at hand. Additionally, when broadcasting gameplay, users are able to monitor comments and view party chat as text, making community interaction more accessible.
To get started, users must sign in with their PlayStation Network account. The PS4 and the mobile device need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network for the app to function correctly. The connection setup involves a basic pairing process between the device and console, which is largely straightforward. However, the need for manual configuration and entering on-screen codes can be a minor hurdle for new users.
PS4 Second Screen features an uncluttered and intuitive interface, promoting straightforward navigation and usability. Actions such as swiping and tapping are responsive, with minimal delay during real-time control. Inputting text through the app is significantly faster compared to using the controller’s on-screen keyboard.

When I first tried this app on my iPhone7 I could not for the life of me figure out how tomake it work. It would just sit on the loading screen and eventually time out and I nevergot anywhere with it until this time when I installed the PSapp and the Second Screenapp at the same time. I opened the PSapp first and logged in and then clicked on thesecond screen function thru the app. Now this app works well and functions smooth onmy iPhoneSE, it's really more of a plug-in than it's own app.
It's a separate app, not a separate paid app. They didn't do this for money or anyconspirical reason. They most likely did this to streamline the second screen feature intoits own thing instead of having to open the "3 in 1" app. I, for one, would rather have thisseparate so I don't have to wait for the main app to load. This goes for the Messages appas well: I hated having to wait to navigate the menu just to get to messages, messagesshould be its own thing. The bottom line is that this does what the main app used to, butwithout the menu navigation. If you don't like it don't download it, it's not a big enoughfeature to care about this much.Although the complaints about it being slow or notconmecting should be looked into. Since they have gone and made into its own thing itshould be working perfectly or at the least as well as it would on the main app.
Got this app a few months ago. It worked just fine, served its purpose. I just needed it tomake responding in my community a lot easier. Suddenly this week it can no longer findmy PS4 for some reason. Says "No PS4 Found" when it used to just automaticallyconnect. I've tried rebooting my PS4, signing out of the app, deleting and reinstalling theapp, updating my phone and the app itself. No change. Thank goodness there's aseparate community app! 4 stars because the app usually did as it was intended to dountil recently. It made typing A LOT easier.l'll really miss using it.
