A Banging Story

From the start, you’ll notice that SEX Amnesia - Lover Sim puts its narrative above all else. This is not the kind of game you play just to get a presentation with multiple sex scenes and be done with it. Much like Katawa Shoujo, the plot and characters are the stars of the show here. Don’t worry, though: there’s still lots of boning going on.

As usual, the game plays like any other visual novel. The player merely picks dialogue options that ultimately influence the course of the story. I was surprised to find just how much the game changes with each choice, rewarding repeat playthroughs and attention to detail.

The fact that there’s also a “conspiracy” at the bottom of the main plot adds a bit more intrigue to the product – something that reminded me of Summertime Saga and how it avoided being just another porn game.

Love is in the Details

Even if the story is the focus here, you just can’t forget that this is a porn game. As such, what most players will care about is just how good the sex scenes look. I’m happy to report that they look superb – for the most part.

SEX Amnesia - Lover Sim uses those characteristic Blender 3D models we’ve seen in countless porn games before. One thing I noticed is that, during animated cutscenes, there are some animation errors here and there. Things like weird joints and stretched textures aren’t uncommon in this game, and if you’re observant enough, that’s the kind of thing that can break the immersion.

Besides that, the game’s presentation looks great. Characters’ faces are surprisingly expressive, making you feel for their plight a bit more. There are plenty of sex scenes to discover – and you can’t get them all in a single playthrough, making this one of those games that you’ll have to play over and over. Keep those tissues ready.
