Tayutama: Kiss on my Deity

In Tayutama: Kiss on my Deity, players transform into Yuri Mito, who encounters Kikuramikami during vacation and embarks on a fantastical adventure to save the world. Along the way, players will encounter a variety of women with distinct personalities, experiencing various events together as their friendships blossom into romance, and unlocking erotic and adult gameplay with each character. The game features multiple storylines, each with its own distinct ending, depending on the player's choices and the character's affection for the player.

Story:

The story follows protagonist Yuri Mito, the only son of the local priest at Yachimata Shrine. After a series of events during spring break, Yuri meets Kikuramikami no Hime, the guardian of a mystical relic in the woods near his school. She explains the strained history between humans and the Tayutai, a mythical race sealed within the relic due to their potential threat to humanity. To bridge the gap between their worlds, the goddess reincarnates as a young girl named Mashiro and entrusts herself to Yuri. However, the relic is accidentally destroyed, releasing the Tayutai. Particularly dangerous are the “Three Mightiest,” powerful entities hostile toward humans.Armed with spirit powers unique to his lineage, Yuri teams up with Mashiro and three other heroines to explore whether humans and Tayutai can coexist peacefully. This romantic fantasy adventure tells a heartfelt tale of growth, connection, and the mysteries of love.

Gameplay:

Tayutama is a romance visual novel in which the player assumes the role of Yuri Mito. Its gameplay mainly consists of reading and progressing through the story's narrative and dialogue. The game's text is accompanied by character sprites, which represent who Yuri is talking to, appearing on top of background artwork. Throughout the game, the player encounters CG artwork at certain points in the story, which take the place of the regular background art and character sprites. When the game is completed at least once, a gallery of the viewed CGs and played background music is available on the game's title screen. Tayutama follows a branching plot line with nonlinear sequences and multiple endings, where the plot's direction is affected by the player's decisions.

Throughout gameplay, the player is given multiple options to choose from, and text progression pauses at these points until a decision is made. These decisions determine the sequence in which the story's events will occur, and progress the plot toward a specific heroine's ending. There are four main plot lines in the original Windows version that the player will have the chance to experience, one for each of the heroines in the story. This is increased to five plot lines in the Xbox 360 version with the extended scenario for Nue. In order to view all plot lines in their entirety, the player will have to replay the game multiple times and make different decisions to progress the plot in alternate directions.

Characters:

Mito Yuuri: Yuuri is a high school student attending the co-ed school in town. He begrudgingly accepts that he will probably have to take over the Yachimata Shrine from his father in the future but his interests lie more in tinkering with motorbikes in the garage attached to the shrine. He has a slightly strained relationship with his father. Yuuri goes along with the fact Mashiro claims to be his wife because he doesn’t really know what else to do with her.

Mito Mashiro (CV Matsuda Risa): Mashiro is a Tayutai created to hopefully promote co-prosperity between humans and tayutai. Because the goddess that created her was sealed away for hundreds of years, Mashiro is extremely out of touch when it comes to modern technology and customs. She aims to be the perfect wife to her beloved Yuuri and wants to do all of his domestic chores. When it comes to training him to help her take down the Big 3, however, she’s a surprisingly hard taskmaster. She ends up attending the prestigious all-girls Flawless Academy.

Kawai Ameri (CV Hanano Kaori): Ameri is Yuuri’s childhood friend and classmate. She’s loud, childish and clearly has feelings for Yuuri but doesn’t know how to act on them. This makes her extremely jealous of Mashiro, and the two butt heads often. Ameri is an only child in a relatively wealthy family so is pretty spoiled, with her father (the school chairman) having a hard time saying no to her.

Takanashi Yumina (CV Aoto Yuwa): Yumina is Yuuri’s (non-blood-related) younger sister. She lived at the shrine with him and his father and was in charge of cooking & cleaning for the family until she was accepted into Flawless Academy under a scholarship. She’s a very shy and nervous young girl who struggles with moving into the dorms of the academy and ends up befriending Mifuyu, whom she looks up to. Yumina is a kind soul but completely lacks self-confidence.

Kisaragi Mifuyu (CV Misaki Rina): Mifuyu is the “Milady” of Flawless Academy (kind of like a prefect) and is from an extremely old, wealthy family. She’s a very refined but strong character, who likes to get her own way. She cares a lot for all of the Flawless students, which is how she came to befriend Yumina. Mifuyu is extremely suspicious of Yuuri and what is going on with the tayutai, and she wants to offer her help because she’s extremely handy with a sword.

Comments:

Tayutama is old visual novel and you can see it in structure of routes. To read all 4 routes, you need to read same story events 4 times. With very minor lines difference and short heroine scenes between these events. Similar to Sharin No Kuni. So maybe best way to play it - just play it once with you favorite girl?About story itself - it is good. I was invested. One of the routes even unexpectedly made me cry.

It's not every day you see a new English VN publisher, so I wanted to see what their translation was like.I'm happy to report that in these times of overlocalization from pretty much all publishers nowadays, the translation in this leans more toward being faithful to the original text. This does NOT mean literal. It reads well in English but they don't remove Japanese culture, add their own jokes where there weren't in the original, or drastically change lines to put their own spin on it unlike some other publishers. The only major deviations from the Japanese I've seen are puns and wordplay but those are more understandable.Common honorifics are mostly kept with the notable exception of sensei which is weird because it's an extremely common and well known honorific, even outside the anime community. They also keep Yumina's third person speech.

Is this a "moe game", a "character game"? I'm not sure anymore. Until the middle of the game, I found the heroines a bit too self-centered... but then, I understood why I read good stuff about the story. I can't say that it's strictly a moe game, but in the second half of the story I started to understand more where the heroines were coming from, and started to find them cute in their clumsiness.Apparently there's a fan disc so I really hope it will be released too!Also other comments already said that but there is a R18 patch!

Route Order:

You can read routes in any order. The heroine route will begin after 8-10 choices. Two choices may be selectable but rejected by the protagonist, depending on your prior choices.
