Highlights of Age of Empires II:

The overall storyline within Age of Empires 2 is relatively complex, and it loosely follows just over 1,000 years of history. In the game, you are going to play as Ghengis Kahn, Joan of Arc, William the Conquerer, and other notorious figures. Those leaders must wage war in order to expand their empires or prevent others from taking over their civilizations. After a stage is complete and you have won a series of battles, you will then move to a new leader in a different era.

One of the reasons why this game has stood the test of time is because of the complexity of each individual civilization. In the Definitive Edition of this game, there are 35 different civilizations to choose from, and each empire has a variety of unique units, characters, bonuses, and penalties. One civilization might be adept at seafaring and trading while another will focus on heavy cavalry and quick movements over land. Before you choose a civilization to play as, you might want to spend some time familiarizing yourself with all of those different factors so that you can refine your tactics.

While some of the campaign matches have unique goals that you will need to achieve, the average game follows a relatively basic progression. When you first start a match, you will typically be provided with a few villagers, a single combatant, and very few resources. You must then direct your villagers to collect resources so that they can recruit more units and build additional structures. As the match progresses, you will be able to unlock new units, carry out research to improve your stats, and build an army. During that time, you must continue to fight off other armies while probing your enemies for weaknesses. The match is over when you defeat the other armies or achieve the set objectives.

Throughout each match, you will carefully need to manage your village and all of your units if you want to be victorious. While the game is going to be relatively slow at first, the pace is quickly going to pick up as you recruit additional units and come into contact with enemy civilizations. If you spend all of your time focusing on collecting resources, then you might not realize that your enemies are right on top of you. On the other end of the spectrum, your resources are going to become depleted if you do nothing more than micromanage your combatants.

Useful Tips of Age of Empires II:

It's Chess, Not Cities: Skylines: If you're looking for a relaxing city-building game to while away a lazy Sunday, you'd best look elsewhere. Age of Empires 2 is a competitive game, and there are many things to keep in mind. Throughout the game, you'll progress through four ages: Dark, Feudal, Castle, and Imperial. You begin with a Town Center and a few Villagers. How can you gather enough resources to advance to the Feudal Age while also spending resources to create more Villagers needed to get said resources? If you're spending so much on Villagers, how do you manage to build an army and not end up open to obliteration? You'll need to answer these questions to ensure you don't lose the game in the Castle Age, when you may start seeing the first waves of your enemy's attacks.

Learn The Hotkeys: Age of Empires 2 has a complex hotkey system that you can maximize to ensure you're creating units, erecting buildings, and gathering resources most efficiently. Want to go directly to your Town Center? There's a hotkey for that.Age of Empires 2 has much to keep up with, and you can't spend the whole game moving your mouse to the edge of the screen searching for idle Villagers. Even learning a few basic hotkeys can save you precious time in trying to keep up with your enemies.

Maps Make A Difference: Some maps are better to play than others. This could depend on your experience level, civilization, and whether your opponents are CPU or real humans. Two good maps for beginners are Arena and Black Forest because they get your defenses up early. Arena begins with your Dark Age settlement surrounded by a stone wall. The Black Forest features innumerable trees that can act as buffers against enemy invasions.Choosing a map best suited for the civilization you want to play is also important. For example, if you're playing on a map with no water, you would think twice before selecting the Koreans since one of their best units is the Turtle Ship. Finally, gimmick maps are best played with real players instead of the CPU. Migration requires you to relocate to a bigger island once your initial resources run out, and this concept can be lost on the game's AI.

Upgrade Your Unit's Armor And Weapons: all the various blacksmith style in age of empires 2 definitive edition. In Age of Empires 2, you might find all the structures you unlock a little overwhelming after reaching the feudal age. Still, if you've correctly allocated your resources, you'll have nothing to worry about in the grand scheme of the game. One of the most important buildings you will want to prop up is the Blacksmith. With this building, you'll be able to ensure that your units have the best armor and weapons they can have. This military technological advantage is crucial to have an edge over your opponents on the field. So remember to build it, and most importantly, revisit it every time you pass to a new age.

Use (And Don't Lose) Your Scout: Upon starting a new game of Age of Empires 2, your sole military unit will most likely be a Scout. The Scout is invaluable to your early-game efforts. Since the Dark Age begins with the map covered in a black fog of war, you'll be unable to see where any enemies are. Resources and Relics may also be in the fog.Enter the Scout. You can manually control where the Scout goes or set him off via the game's Auto Scout feature. Avoid putting him in any danger because he'll likely die easily. And while he's not the only Scout you'll be able to recruit, it could be some time before you build a Stable to get another one.

Player Comments of Age of Empires II:

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition takes one of the greatest RTS games ever made and gives it the modern polish it deserves. With dozens of civilizations, improved campaigns, and a thriving multiplayer scene, it delivers endless replayability. Whether you’re a veteran or a newcomer, AoE2DE stands out as one of the most refined and rewarding strategy games available today.

Just broke 1,100 hours on this version of the game. Started playing the original in 2002. The DE version perfectly recaptures the original and adds new content. Someone at Microsoft still loves this game, and we're all better for it. Best way to have fun with your buddies on a weekend night.

Yay, childhood memories brought back in beautiful nostalgia. Sadly they removed the civilization history tab that you could read up on the civs. As a history lover, this is very sad to me, but the rest of the game is just better now. You can actually tell your AI allies commands now in order to ensure victory! If you want walls for AI, choose CD AI!!!

The game is challenging and needs various skills to be able to win, which is really enjoyable. However this is a very difficult game to learn. It would be very beneficial to start with only a few civilisations and maps. Once you have mastered them, executed certain scenarios can you be promoted to the next level and so on.

Conclusion:

Age of Empires II celebrates the 20th anniversary of one of the most popular strategy games ever with stunning 4K Ultra HD graphics, a new and fully remastered soundtrack, and brand-new content, “The Last Khans” with 3 new campaigns and 4 new civilizations.Explore all the original campaigns like never before as well as the best-selling expansions, spanning over 200 hours of gameplay and 1,000 years of human history.
