Okay so, storytime. This is a Wii U game. At least originally. Made some pretty neat use of the gamepad there too, what with being able to use the touchscreen as your keyboard to type in or rearrange words!So a year or so after that they came up with this "Revised" version, which slightly touches up some elements of it (graphics and audio and such), and axes the gamepad features in favor of a more generalist implementation of the mechanics where the keyboard just pops up on screen and you use it with regular buttons.A bit of a sad loss since it's SO MUCH SLOWER than touch inputs, but fair enough. Guess they needed a way to be able to port the game to other systems without that hardware feature.Anyway! The game itself.It's a VERY simple linear cinematic 2D platformer, think something along the lines of Limbo, but with an emphasis on words and their power. Taken literally, in this case, since a good portion of the environmental elements as well as every single living entity is made up of words. Namely, one single word come to life or having some effect around itself in some way.It's a very unique setup, one that I've definitely never seen done elsewhere.So, the main gimmick of this game plays around those words. Every single puzzle revolves around them. You'll have to make up words, or rearrange letters into words that you need, all so that you can do SOMETHING on the environment to progress.For example, say, a mechanism that's turned off, so you find the letters to put together the word "ON" which turns on every mechanism in a big radius around itself. Or you need to open a door so you make "OPEN". Or you need to move a platform so you make "RAISE", or "MOVE", or something along those lines. You get the point, it basically all revolves around that.There's harmful words that you'll have to avoid, or modify in some way, or use LIEs (an entity that can invert words to their antonyms) to turn them into good words. Or use good words to begin with to protect yourself against them, since such words can give you a protective shield if you stick close to them.

This was one of the games that I really wanted to play as a kid. Because i love the premise of words coming to life, and just how the game looks was astonishing for me. I love the dark world vibe to the setting of where the HERO is, I love the characters and even though the last boss was very simple, it was still a good boss tbh. Ill give typoman a 9/10.

I expected this to be a normal platformer with some letters thrown around as boxes to move but as I've played it I've realized that EVERYTHING around this game revolves around making words.The amount of details you'll find in this, from the hero being made of the actual letters of "HERO" to the enemies being built from "DOOM", this game will keep surprising you.And when you thought you've seen all the combinations you start seeing more options, and at this point you would just call it "Wordle The Game" because when playing this you'll just solve many wordles.The amount of work that went into all of those details is unreal and I want more games to do this.

Walkthrough of Typoman Remastered:

The game starts out with our hero simply being an "o" rolling around on the ground. Roll to the right and drop down the "drop" an continue rolling to the right until you reach a plank. Roll into it to knock it down and continue to the right where you will come across your body. Roll into it and you'll be able to hop. Hop to the right and wait on the edge of a ledge until a platform comes down. Hop onto the platform and then continue to hop to the right once the platform gets to the top. You'll hop onto your legs and you will be able to walk and jump now. Wait until the next platform to your right comes back down and jump up onto it with the cn_A button. Once the platform you're on reaches the top, hop up the ledges to your right and then jump off the cliff. Head into the alcove on your left and you will obtain one of your arms on the ground underneath the hanging letters "save", which allows you to move and lift letters.

Now that your hero is fully functional, you can see your first quotation on a wooden platform to your right. Head towards the ladder, climb up and then jump to your left onto the wooden platform and grab quotation 1/23. Hop to the right of this platform and drop down into the next opening and you'll see a big press. Approach it and you'll see the letters RT appear, which is telling you to press cn_RT to drag and push letters. Walk towards the R and the gate in front of it will open. Drag the R and it will change from 'Press RT" to "Press B", which is the games way of telling you that you press the cn_B button to lift and drop letters. Use the cn_B button to lift the R and place it below the ladder, allowing you to jump on top of the R and climb the ladder above you. Head up the ladder and head to the right and you'll see an L sticking out of the ground with the word "EVER" in the ground. This is the games way of showing you what levers within the game look like. To activate a lever, stand on the left side of the L and, using cn_RT, pull back to activate the effects of the lever. Do this and you'll lower the gate in front of you. Walk past the gate and you'll see three platforms you have to jump across. Jump across the first one and then while jumping from the second to the third, jump immediately off the third platform to the ladder as the third platform will collapse below you.

Climb up the ladder and hop to the right and you'll see your other arm hanging from a rope on the ceiling. As you approach it, a "GREED" enemy will come from above and take it. Once you see it, run to the right and jump off the ledge and you'll see a structure that spells "MOVE" in front of you. Run towards the structure holding cn_RT and you'll push the O out of the way. Continue pushing the O right up to the N a bit further on to the right to make the word ON. This will activate the platform in front of you, so when you have the opportunity, jump on the platform and ride it to the top. Once you're at the top, head to the left where you'll see some question marks hanging from ropes. Jump onto the one that is closest to you, and then swing the left stick back and forth to gather momentum. When you are at or above the same level as the next question mark to your left, jump off and you'll grab onto that question mark. You now need to do the same thing to get to the platform up and to the left of you. Once you do that, jump up to the ladder and climb up and you'll find quotation 2/23 up here.

Make your way back down to the platform and head to the right this time (you may need to separate ON to get the platform to come back down). Climb up the ladder here and continue heading to the right once you're at the top. You'll eventually reach a cutscene where a "DOOM" enemies will drop down behind you and start chasing you. When you can, push the letters for RUN out of the way and drop down into the clearing below. Down here, there will be an O which you need to push into an N to the right. Do this to make the word ON to lower the gate above you. Before you climb up the ladder, jump to the right of ON and grab quotation 3/23. Climb up the ladder and head to the right through the gate. Jump across the three platforms and you'll be introduced to the meat of the game, crafting words to solve puzzles. You'll always be given a set of letters that can create a word to solve a puzzle to help you progress. Some puzzles have multiple solutions so keep an eye out for that as well. As you move to the right, you'll be automatically thrown into the wordscrambler. DON'T PANIC! This is mandatory and will not void your achievement. Rearrange the given letters to spell the word DOWN and jump up to the ladder and head to the right through the gate.
