Beholder
Introduction

In Beholder, players are placed in a mysterious future world, becoming the manager of an apartment building. On the surface, you're responsible for the residents' daily needs, but secretly, you must monitor their conversations and belongings according to the government's directives, searching for anything that might pose a threat. The game offers various side quests; you can choose not to report to your superiors, or you can use these clues to threaten the residents. Each choice will affect the plot's development. What are you waiting for? Become the manager and fulfill your responsibilities!

Features of Beholder:

Moral Quandaries and Consequences: Every piece of information gathered raises profound ethical questions. Reporting a tenant's illicit activities could lead to their imprisonment, creating a ripple effect that ripples through their family and community. Alternatively, choosing to protect them could jeopardize your own safety and that of your loved ones. These dilemmas highlight the dual existence of savior and betrayer that you must navigate. The game does not shy away from the grim realities of your choices; instead, it prompts you to reflect on the cost of cowardice versus the burden of sacrifice.

Choices that Shape Futures: The decisions you make reverberate throughout Krushvice 6, creating a storyline rich with consequences. Each action molds the world around you, affecting not just immediate outcomes but the overarching narrative that unfolds. When faced with a tenant who seeks help, you are left with the question: should you exploit their situation for personal gain, or should you lend a hand and perhaps risk everything? The choices you face are stark, and they impact both your character’s journey and the lives of those around you.

The Perils of False Promises: As a meager wage earner under the watchful eye of the State, your family’s survival may tempt you to tread darker paths. The allure of blackmail looms, whispering promises of financial stability in your ear. The struggle for survival against the unyielding backdrop of oppression forces you into corners you never thought you'd walk into. Here lies the essence of Beholder: it frames the human condition under duress, challenging players to confront their values when survival is on the line.

Multiple Endings Based on Choices Made: The narrative of Beholder is anything but linear. Each decision branches into distinct pathways, leading to manifold endings that reflect the choices you made along the way. Perhaps you will find redemption or succumb to the prevailing darkness. Useful Tips of Beholder:

Talk/Search/Profile

You will be using this a lot as it’s the core-purpose of your job.

When talking to tenants/family (when they don’t have an exclamation mark), you can find out some extra info about them or other tenants. Just go through all options except when the guide mentions to skip a certain option. Information you can use to profile/report a tenant will be highlighted in red.

When a tenant is not in his room, you can interact with the door and choose the first option to let yourself in. You can then interact with the furniture to search its contents. Browse through the items in the furniture, and when you see something of interest, you can press cn_Y to record it in your notebook. You can also steal items using cn_A. If you need to plant an item in a room, search the furniture until it’s content-window comes up, and then select an item from your inventory on the left. Press cn_A to plant the item in the furniture.

You can also observe tenants both to catch them on stuff you can use in your Profiles, as well as stuff you can use to Report then and get them arrested. When you have camera’s placed in apartments, you can instantly see when the tenants are doing something suspicious. Record their actions with cn_RS. When you don’t have all camera’s installed yet, you can also peep through the keyhole of their door (2nd option when interacting with the door) to observe them. Again, use cn_RS to record the activity.

The Computer

When interacting with the computer, the third option is to Profile/Report/Blackmail a tenant/family member.

Report: select this option to report a tenant for illegal items/activities as per the Government Directions. Select the tenant/family member and add the evidence from the bottom part of the right window (Evidence Collected section). You can only report for one piece of evidence at the time. Once reported, the police come to search the apartment and arrest the tenant.

Profile: select this option and then select a tenant. Place all gathered info that you want to report (from the top-section; 'Information Collected') into the Profile with cn_A then press cn_X to send the profile and receive some money. The more items you add to the profile, the more money you make.

Blackmail Letter: use this option to send a blackmail letter to a tenant. Select the tenant and the evidence from the bottom 'Evidence Collected' section. If lucky, the tenant will put some money in the potted plant on the 1st floor. Note that not all tenants will pay. Also, note that the evidence used in a blackmail letter cannot be used again in either a Report or another Blackmail letter. You will need to gather the evidence again in order to file a Report or to send a 2nd blackmail letter.

Player Comments of Beholder:

This game is absolutely incredible. The setting is a totalitarian government who pretendsto benefit the people. The gameplay is great and works phenomenally with the touchscreen. There's no awkward fake joystick fiddling, mostly tapping. Don't let that fool you, this game is one of the deepest experiences you could have on IOS, second only to MyChild Lebensborn. The style and character interactions are dripping with atmosphere, thedystopia effects all of them. It also has the Papers Please quality of constant moralchoice with it being really hard to make the right choice. You are a landlord workingdirectly for the government. You have a number of lives in your hands, including yourfamily's. You need money, and it's pretty hard to get and hold on to. It's not impossible toalways make the right choice, but it's difficult. You often have to choose betweensupporting your family or making the world a better place. Sometime though, the choicekicks you in the stomach and you essentially wasted your money. It's impossible to tellwhen this happens, and it really adds to the feeling that you're living in a cruel worldwhere your voice is lost. Despite that, it's still a tremendously engaging experience, and lfound myself attached to some of these characters which are essentially black splotches.Get this game.

Wow, this game has been a heck of a ride! So many different pathways to take, somebetter than others. Some even deadly! It's the perfect mix of dystopian and surreal. It'sgot a great storyline and lots of cool features. The art is very cool, too! It might take afew goes to learn all of the different things you can do as the main character, Carl. Youmight kill him a few times, but you can always load your last checkpoint and trysomething less deadly next time. All in all, it's a fantastic game! Well worth the money. The only issue I had is with the English grammar/pronunciation on a few of the words, butit's not even worth docking a star because it's so few and far between that it doesn'timpact the game at all.

Played it on pc, and was thinking it would be so nice to play it on touch screen, and thereit is! I find it much more easier to play this way than clicking the mouse like crazy. Also, Ithink the simplified filing/blackmailing/reporting system is a BIG improvement. The timepauses when you are looking through things, which is nice too. The only suggestion Iwould make is the save/load system, I wish we could be able to control the timingsomehow, e.g. it's a pain if i just forgot to pick up the box left by the tenant before repairbut had to start from before taking the quest! Looking forward to more!
