Watch the enemy spies: As a field operative team member, try to pay attention to the other team's failed guesses at their Spymaster’s clues. Maybe you can figure out the clue that they didn’t. If so, you’ll know at least one of the words that is a codename for their team, which means you can avoid guessing it on your team’s turn.

Take your turn at being the Spymaster: You may find this role intimidating and want to let others take the lead, but it’s a good idea for everyone to get practice playing as both an Operative and a Spymaster. Playing both roles can help strengthen your skills on both sides of the table.

Never forget about the Assassin: When you’re the Spymaster, you should never give a clue without first making sure that it won’t fit the Assassin's codename. Remember, if your team mistakenly chooses the Assassin, it’s game over!

First, there's basically infinite gameplay here. You can start anynumber of games as spymaster or operative, so you can always have a game running.And you can collect new words, and earn upgrades to access special new variations ofthe Codenames format. And the daily challenges are an innovative way to help keep yourbrain sharp on giving and receiving clues. I also really appreciate the jury system. If aword isn't in the dictionary you can have a jury vote to accept it. Once you're highenough level you can help vote on the jury too. This way, the game's lexicon can growand evolve as real language grows and evolves. Brilliant. I can't imaging a more perfectgame.

Folks, CGE knows how to do mobile gaming. I'd say they're kind of the masters of it now,given their outstanding previous releases. It's not just about the highly polished andintuitive interface and functionality of the app, which is impressive in it's own right. Themost noteworthy aspect of the Codenames app is how they've ingeniously expanded theappeal and variety of the game. They didn't just take the Codenames game and put itonline. Instead, they looked at how they could actually evolve the game through theopportunities an online platform offers. The result is a highly satisfying and enjoyableexperience that doesn't get old thanks to its variety. And variety doesn't just mean themany unlockables and achievements that it also sports - variety means the 10+ differenttwists on the core game. l love the board game, and somehow this works so well as an app. There's the obviousslight annoyance of having to wait for the other players to take their turn, but you canhave lots of games going. You can either play with random players, play with otherplayers that you've chosen, or do a pass and play with people in the room with you.There are daily scenarios, and the clues that players create for these scenarios aregiven to other players as daily cases to solve. There are VIP games with themed words,and lots of options for different gameplay in the games you play with friends withgadgets, different sized boards and other switchups to keep it interesting - but ifyou're a purist and just want to play it the original way, you totally can. It's satisfying tocollect the words and achievements. It seems like the potential problems have beenconsidered and addressed very thoroughly. If your clue isn't in the dictionary, it'ssubmitted to a jury of other players. I don't understand how it works but you can rateyour spymaster/operative when the game is over, with the implication that if you ratethem unfavorably you won't get matched with them again. And if a player doesn'tfinish a game, they drop in a new player and call it a rescue mission (I just think thetheme is fun).One thing that might be helpful (and maybe it's there and l just don'tsee it) is info about how many games you've played with each one of your friends, andwhen it was and maybe even how often you've won. I've wondered that when I'mstarting a game with friends.But that's really the only suggestion I can think of. It's avery well-thought out app iteration of the Codenames board game!
