Minecraft Earth is a creative game designed specifically for Minecraft players, bringing various buildings and structures from Minecraft into the real world. After completing their designs in the game, players can use augmented reality technology to project their creations onto the real world, allowing them to appreciate their work from all angles. The game boasts a vibrant player community where players can freely exchange game tips, download other players' creations, or upload their own, making the game even more dynamic.

Gameplay of Minecraft Earth:

Similar to Minecraft, Minecraft Earth was centered around building structures, gathering resources, crafting, and exploration. The game utilized the same Bedrock game engine as most other versions of Minecraft. In "build mode", players could build augmented reality structures on "Buildplates" in collaboration with other players, then explore them in full size with "play mode". In both Build mode and Play mode, the buildplates were overlaid onto the real world using augmented reality (AR) and the built-in phone camera. Players could gather resources by collecting "tappables" in the in-game map and by completing "adventures" which may be a puzzle, a specific task, or a virtual location with hostile entities to defeat. Minecraft Earth considers physical objects such as trees and lakes so there are fewer incidents and interferences with the AR simulation.

Minecraft Earth included many different kinds of in-game entities called "mobs" that are exclusive variations of the mobs in Minecraft. The game had two in-game currencies: "rubies" and "minecoins". Rubies could be earned through gameplay or purchased with real money and could be used to purchase items that affect gameplay such as "build plates". Minecoins, which are present in all Bedrock editions of Minecraft, could only be purchased with real money and are used to purchase cosmetic items, such as texture packs and character skins. In the final update, Mojang removed all real-money microtransactions, reduced in-game currency costs, and reduced crafting/smelting times in order for players to "get the most out" of the game before it shut down.

Short mini-adventures fit into quick outings and set clear goals, like completing a small task with a friend.

Unique mobs for your builds: To personalize scenes, unique mobs such as the muddy pig and moobloom are available. Collect them and place them near your creations to add variety. These creatures help show scale when you view a scene in augmented reality.

It’s just Minecraft: Don’t overthink it – Minecraft Earth really is just a micro-Minecraft that you can take with your wherever you go. You’ll collect resources by tapping stuff in the real world and create your usual creations on your Buildplate, which you can take with you wherever you are.

Complete your daily challenges: Each day you get to complete challenges, which reward you for doing stuff you’d probably do anyway. Make sure to check your challenges each day from the second menu option from the right at the bottom of the screen.

Collect stuff whenever you leave the house: Every time you go out in the real world, see it as an opportunity to earn some rewards in Minecraft Earth. Just pop your phone open every now and then to see what’s nearby. With a few taps of your finger you’ll have a bunch of new rewards.

Go on Adventures occasionally for rare rewards: Adventures are like micro-Minecraft adventures that challenge you to collect rare resources and battle monsters with your friends. If you’re trying to track something down for a build, chances are you’ll find it on an Adventure.

Share your Buildplates with friends: Buildplates are tiny Minecraft worlds that you can build stuff on using AR. You can bring your Buildplate with you no matter where you are in the world, and you can share it with friends to collaborate together on creations.

HOW DO I GET INTO THE MINECRAFT EARTH BETA?

The closed betas for Minecraft Earth will be launching this summer on iOS and Android. As with all betas, the number of participants will be limited but we anticipate it rolling out to hundreds of thousands of players. Players must be 18 or older to participate.
