Baldi’s Basics

Baldi’s Basics
Introduction

Baldi’s Basics is a horror escape game where players must collect seven notebooks in a bizarre and eerie school and escape successfully. Facing strange students and Mr. Baldi, players must cleverly utilize various items among the students and familiarize themselves with the school layout to successfully evade the teacher's pursuit and escape. The game also offers an endless mode where players must collect as many notebooks as possible before being caught. As time goes on, Mr. Baldi's speed will increase, enhancing the challenge. The game supports gamepad controls and allows for customizable button layouts for a more comfortable gaming experience.

Features of Baldi’s Basics:

Story Mode challenge: In Story Mode, your goal is to collect seven notebooks and reach the exits. Baldi increases speed with each notebook, so the pressure rises as you progress. Careful movement and decisions become more important near the end, which pushes you to map safe routes and time actions well.

Endless Mode scoring: Endless Mode shifts focus to high scores by letting you collect as many notebooks as possible. When you solve problems correctly, Baldi’s speed slows over time, which helps you extend a run. This loop encourages steady problem solving and situational awareness so you can push for better results.

Strategy and stealth: Baldi’s Basics rewards players who learn item effects and enemy behaviors. Sound plays a major role, so plan movements to stay quiet and avoid drawing attention. With practice, you can combine items, timing, and route knowledge to reduce risk in busy hallways.

Mobile controls and options: The official mobile port supports touch screen controls and external controllers. You can adjust sensitivity and control layouts in the options menu to match your device and style. This customization helps the game feel responsive during quick turns and sudden encounters.

Useful Tips of Baldi’s Basics:

This section is mostly just where I dump any noteworthy tricks and such for the game.

Avoid the Principal: One of the more annoying parts of the game concerns the Principal. He can randomly come down a hall, see you running, and put you in detention. The more times you get in detention, further, the longer the detention, which makes it all the worse. Luckily, at least for the running, you can avoid him: repeatedly mash the run button when you're near him, as opposed to holding it. While your speed will lower a little, you conserve stamina a bit better running like this and also generally won't be noticed by the Principal. (It's somewhat analogous to a sprinting trick in the Grand Theft Auto series if you've ever played that, but slower: you want to press the run button for less than a second with a second between presses.)

Avoid Detention: Another trick involving the Principal is a bit of a glitch. Suppose you're breaking the rules near the detention room and the Principal is about to catch you for it. If you enter the room, you'll be given detention, but the door will remain open, thus negating the necessity of the Principal's Keys in escaping detention. Keep in mind though that leaving the room still will constitute breaking a school rule and can result in you getting sent in for a longer detention of the Principal finds you.

Best Way to Use BSoda: It cannot be stated enough how important BSoda is for you to progress through the last portion of the game in particular. With Baldi moving as fast as he does during that portion, it'll be nearly impossible for you to win without it. The optimal way to use it is in a long, unblocked hallway, just before he's about to get you. The best halls for this in my opinion are the westernmost and easternmost one, with preference to the former. This will not only mean he'll be shoved back far, far away, but also have to be pushed back for a good chunk of time, possibly taking other foes with him.

XemStretch: This is a glitch noted by SioNisti on speedrun.com, noting that it works in versions 1.2.2 and 1.3. If you're within the range in which you can pick up an item, if you instead look behind you and click on that item, you'll grab it instead.

Player Comments of Baldi’s Basics:

I see a lot of problems, including various items not working. First of all, the Big ol' Boots is meant to stop 1ST Prize from pushing you. Baldi (only in this version, not in plus or classic remastered), gets faster for each question that is wrong. Buggy because the game is three years old, and might not work so well. I look forward to future updates to Plus and Classic Remastered. I can't wait to see what future awaits Baldi and his friends.

Baldi's Basics is a horror game, with its setting taking place at a school. You need to collect 7 notebooks, with a set of 3 questions each, and go through 4 exits in order to beat the game. The math teacher, Baldi, will get faster for each question the player gets wrong. I would like to explain to those who misunderstood the purpose of this game that it is NOT EDUCATIONAL. It is for fun purposes only. The game gives impossible questions that are designed to be unsolvable.

Hey guys, I'm 18 now, and I remembered this game from back in the day, watching Markiplier and playing it. Seeing the songs people would make it was awesome. I still think it's a fun game to go back to every now and then I heard the creator was making a new game plus or something. I hope it comes to the app store. it also seems like he removed baildi's campaigning trip, and even through it was a demo, it was still nice to have, and hopefully, it too someday gets turned into a full game.

This is a great game! For those idiot parents that install the game for there kids making a bad review, there is a reminder at the start clarifying that this is NOT a game for kids and is an horror game next time THINK. For the lore: you have to go back to school because your friend has accidentally left his 7 notebooks there, as you walk in you stumble against baldi the teacher, you do the first two notebooks, But you got one wrong and baldi is furious you have to survive baldi and his helpers.

Baldi’s Basics

Walkthrough of Baldi’s Basics:

First 3 books + items

When the run begins, start by grabbing notebook #1 and #2 in the hallway. While not necessary, but it's best to grab the book on the right first, since it means you can move away from Baldi to grab the second, rather than having to double back towards him. Once you do that, take the right hall, and enter the faculty only room.

There is a high probability that either Playtime or the Principal of the Thing will see you as you go. If Playtime grabs you, its not a terrible thing, but if the Principal spots you running or entering the faculty room, it's best to just restart.

Once inside, leave the Zesty Bar (we'll come back for it later), enter the adjoining room, and grab Baldi's Least Favourite Tape. Use it whenever you sent to detention (otherwise, you shouldn't need it). Exit the faculty room.

From here, depending on whether or not First Prize is in a favourable position to distance myself from Baldi, I either loop around the halls near Detention and notebook 4 to lose LOS with Baldi and make some distance, use First Prize to get away, or if I didn't have any delays on the way there, run straight to the cafeteria. We want to gather any items that are in unfavourable positions now before Baldi becomes too fast to chance it.

There's a chance a Quarter spawns in the halls leading up to the cafeteria. If it spawns, grab it. Otherwise, you can pick up a Quarter in the faculty room along the left hall in relative safety since it spawns very close to the door. Regardless of where you find it, you're going to want at least one Quarter so you can have 2 BSODAs for the end sequence.

Once in the Cafeteria, I grab the Zesty Bar on the right side, and if I managed to grab an early Quarter, a BSODA from the vending machine. After that, I'm usually far away enough from Baldi to run past detention and grab notebook #3.

Next two books

Before talking about the route, it's important to note that once you grab the 3rd notebook, you can only barely keep ahead of Baldi by walking, and by the 4th book, you're guaranteed to die if you don't have a way to lose him. The two best ways to do so are First Prize, and circling him around the corridors in the center of the school, which are short enough and have enough intersections that breaking LOS isn't too arduous, and Baldi is likely to pick the wrong direction to search once you do, sending him far and away from you as long as you stay incognito. The S: bend next to notebook 4 is particularly effective for this purpose.

Otherwise, at this point it's best to seek out First Prize (having subtitles enabled is useful for locating him, as well as ALL NPCs, it almost feels like cheating) and stick to him like glue until you're a safe distance from Baldi. Note that if you haven't traded your Quarter for a second BSODA yet, it's best to do it now, to ensure you don't have to make a detour for it later, when every second counts for staying ahead.

Regardless, once you've made some distance from Baldi, head for notebook #4 and grab it. If you've already used your Least Favourite Tape, you can swap it for a pair of Safety Scissors while you're here. You should swap it even if you haven't, as getting grabbed at this point usually warrants a restart anyway.

From here, depending on your distance from Baldi, you can either run straight for notebook #5 and grab it, but assuming you aren't that lucky, you'll want to make distance again, either by looping around the center halls, or via First Prize. Either way, make your way to notebook #5 and snag it.

Final 2 books

From here, the path is very straightforward (in a literal sense). Head to the cafeteria, grab the BSODA on your way through, exit from the far side, and take the left path to the long hallway with the last 2 books. When your stamina runs out (around the middle of the cafeteria), use your Zesty bar and keep running. At this point, you should have 2 BSODAs and possibly a pair of Safety Scissors. Enter the first door on your right, and grab notebook #6. Once you leave the room, Baldi should be dogging your heels, so run as far as you can towards the final notebook. Once Baldi is as close as he can possibly be before killing you, blast him back with a BSODA and limp your way over to the last notebook. Grab it and get ready to run.

Final words:

Far from what Baldi's Basics would have you believing from its seemingly innocent title, this game is not educational at all. In fact, it is actually a terrifying challenge to escape from a school gone wrong. Similar to other titles like Slenderman and Granny, here you'll find the kind of horror that only urban legends can invoke. Trapped in a completely locked up school, it's up to you to solve math problems and pick up objects in order to find your way out.
