Gameplay of Roller Champions:

Roller Champions is a 3v3 competitive multiplayer sports game played from a third-person perspective. The track has four gates, with a net next to each one. The game starts with the ball dropping from one of them. Players can grab the ball, throw it, and pass it to their teammates, as well as tackle their opponents and jump.

To unlock the net, the team must go through all four gates while in possession of the ball. If the opposing team takes possession of the ball for any reason, all the gates are reset. Once the net is unlocked, the team in possession of the ball can shoot into it to score points.

Shooting the ball into the net on the first lap is worth one point. If the team goes through all four gates for a second lap without being intercepted, they can score three points upon a successful shot into the net. If the team completes a third lap, they can score five points. To win the game, the team must either score five points before the timer of 7 minutes runs out or score more points than the other team once the timer elapses.At the end of each match, participating players gain “fans” that can be used to advance through the roller pass tiers to gain cosmetic items and unlock new arenas.

Useful Tips of Roller Champions:

Flow / Counter-flow: Completing a lap consists of getting the ball through the 4 checkpoints of the rink in order (counter clockwise), but the shortest way is not always the safest. Some teams might choose to willingly go the opposite way and bypass opponent's defense. Find what works for your team!

Practice Makes Perfect: When in a match, you are all under pressure. With opponents threatening you and teammates counting on you, it is not the ideal moment to learn something new.Jump into Practice Mode and throw a few balls around to get the feel of how things work. You can even add bots when you are comfortable to add a bit of match realism.

Cover more Ground: General team melees are fun and exciting, but once you have the ball, spreading your team out can help you cover more ground quickly. Pass the ball down the lane and see how fast you can complete those laps.

Draft like a Champion: Speed is key. One tool in your Roller Champion arsenal is the ability to gain speed from drafting other players, both teammates and opponents. Follow another player, and once you see the drafting lines appear around you, you know that your speed will pick up. So, go forth and channel your inner racer.

Pump it!: Did we say speed was key? Cause speed is key. Another way to gain speed in Roller Champions is to master the slopes with pumping; make yourself small, lower that center of mass and let gravity do its thing. So, go forth and channel your inner rock rolling down hill as well!

Dive the Ball: Tackling is a useful tool in your Roller Champions belt; but did you know you can Dive Tackle? Double press your tackle button and you will dive in the direction you want. You can then use this to dive for the ball when it's loose and try to secure it for your team!

Trust the Pass: Passing is an essential part of Roller Champions, using it to your advantage is a great way to deepen your skills. Roller Champions has an auto-pass between teammates, but the real challenge is to learn when to throw that pass. Keep in mind that it’s all about finding the right timing!

I downloaded and played this game just to leave a steam review, as I had played it since launch on the Ubi Launcher -I say this blankly, and with no ill will toward any Ubisoft devs, but so many games they've put out like this (Riders Republic, The Crew, even Hyperscape a game I miss every day) - there is a kernel of a good idea executed with the efficiency of a board room trying to turn a profit.For every good and high quality point you can gleam from one of their non farcry/AC titles you can see dozens of problems, whether they be bugs, or inefficiencies, or horrible bits of monetization.Roller is a fun game concept executed almost well. It could use some map variety beyond nascar circuits, SBMM might help new players from being totally stomped, if they're going to insist on MTX then maybe add more than 5 random items per day in the shop.Hell, if I wanted to complain about the cosmetics there's no free hair styles, or ways to change hair colour or add facial hair, which should just be free and included. I don't think that's controversial to say.Gameplay wise it is fun, I streamed it semi regularly close to launch and had a good time with it but it feels hollow and incomplete. to quote a friend "it feels like Lucioball in overwatch" which is to say the core game feels like a minigame in something bigger and more fun.if it looks fun to you, play it, it is fun, just go into it with tempered expectations.

I originally played this game a ton on Ubisoft's game application, and just realized it was on Steam today. I really love Roller Champions. It's concept is novel and well executed. The games are fast and nailbiting-ly intense. And the design is pretty cool, combining well known cities with near future aesthetics. I have to say I absolutely ADORE the Mayan map-- it is so cool to mix futuristic themes with ancient ruins.The game obviously falls short because of Ubisoft, since it was originally exclusive to their app for months (and it is just another case of not wanting to make ANOTHER account). The concept is so tremendously cool and the rules just make sense: run the ball around and shoot it through a hoop. The game is fun and there is potential for tremendously good teamplay, but like other online multiplayer games, it falls short because of it. Having a good team that passes the ball back and forth, uses slingshots to speed past opponents, and coordinates goals makes the game SOOO much fun. But, you rarely experience that. It is very common for people to hog the ball, or try to do everything on their own. I am not blaming them, but rather the game suffers by having such a team focus and there being absolutely zero recourse for if your teammate just doesn't want to play as a team.It does suck to dock points off of a game for people that don't play it as intended, but I think game design is also about GETTING people to play how they SHOULD, and Roller Champions doesn't really do that. It isn't as intuitive or incentive as it should be. I think this drawback is exemplified in all of the negative reviews where people complain about sweats and getting absolutely curb stomped; a good team can feel IMPOSSIBLE to win against. Grab two friends, get in a Discord call, and win some games to see what I mean. You can do a LOT simply by having chemistry and being nice to each other. Play solo and it can feel like a 1v5 instead of a 3v3. BUT, viewing it as a 1v5 is what breaks team synergy in the first place. When playing, always keep in mind that you are a team. Pass the ball, shoot it through the checkpoints if you're getting surrounded, and use team boosts.I still recommend this game because I have had so much fun with it. Solo queue can be enjoyable when everyone knows what they are doing, but it can also feel impossibly hard if the enemy team knows exactly what they are doing. I wish that the game had a little more depth (more team actions, more stage variation, grinding would be so cool), but for what it is, it is really fun. I highly recommend that you get all of your buds in a Discord call and play some games. After all, it is free and worth your time.
