Player Comments of Lessons in Love:

Incredible game, though admittedly I only made it about 50 or 60 hours into it before calling it. I intend to continue at some point, but fuck, this game is a trainwreck.

I don't mean that in a negative way. More in a, "I'm going to show you the most human characters you've ever seen, and then destroy them for you."

This is the type of game that requires an essay for a good review. You'll see a lot of people leaving reviews along the lines of, "This game takes itself way too seriously, the main character has zero redeeming qualities, it's grindy, and way too long."

I will say that in the beginning, it feels like a very cheesy game. The horror did not do it for me. Not in that it wasn't scary, but more that I just didn't care. Who cares if the main character is having whack-ass hallucinations? Just show me the girls! But, by the time you reach Act 2 or 3, much of the horror movie type horror has gone, and you're left with a very dreadful psychological horror that really fucking wears you down. You keep playing because you want to see the girls be happy.

The main character has zero redeeming qualities... is, for the most part, true. He does help the girls through shit, but it's incredibly hard to tell if he actually cares for them (at least for a long time) or if he's just grooming them (he is, but keep your nuance hat on). I won't breach spoiler territory, but he has his own baggage. And later into the game, he starts to leave "psychopath" territory, and move into "wow I just realized I've made one trillion mistakes and now I have to deal with the consequences," territory. He's an interesting character to see the story through.

As for the grind, it really isn't too bad. This, unfortunately, is definitely a game you need a flowchart or guide for, at least starting around Act 2. They're readily available thankfully, but it's all too easy to find yourself not progressing for several weeks because you haven't triggered the dumbass flag you get from talking to one girl on a certain day at a certain time. There aren't too many of those, but they're frustrating when you get to them. Don't hesitate to look up a guide if you get stuck. This is less of a game, and more of a story that occasionally requires you to meet a specific requirement to continue reading (at least, that's eventually how I started approaching it, and I enjoyed it much more because of that).

As for its length... my god. You could do nothing but play this shit for weeks on end and not reach the current end, since it's still in development as I write this. This works both for and against it. It works for it, because contrary to what you may think, there isn't much filler. The story is inherently about the characters. Every event adds to what you know about the characters, or will be given a callback to later, or will knowledge check you at a random point. It's a true joy to read until you get to what I like to call, "The Endless Suffering Arc."

This is also where I stopped reading, mainly because it was fucking with my mental outside of the game. You get to love the characters a lot, and you certainly get a sense of impending doom at a certain point that does not go away. Eventually I stopped believing we'd hit rock bottom.

TL;DR, 5/5, my favorite game on this site, possibly one of my favorite stories in general of all time. I look forward to the day I can lock in and finish this game, especially given the current work on "purity routes" (I.E., routes where you focus on one particular girl instead of all of them at once, since the story is a harem one). Chika my beloved, someday I'll get to end the story with you...

Play it if you're curious, you lose nothing from giving it a shot. It touches on incredibly heavy subject matter at times (though mostly later on), so if you do give it a shot, also don't hesitate to put it down. Great game.

FAQs of Lessons in Love:

How can I use JoiPlay to play Lessons in Love on my Android phone?

The following instructions were provided by AgeForce on the Discord. STEP 1. Download the windows version of the game, make sure you're aware of the download location on your device. STEP 2. Unpack the .zip using RAR or your desired unpacking tool. You can get the app through Google Play Store. STEP 3. Download Joiplay and the Ren'py plugin through the Google Play store. STEP 4. Launch Joiplay. When you're on the main menu click the "+" button on the bottom right. Enter game name, version and (optional) game icon. On "Executable File" click Choose and go to the location where you downloaded the game, when inside the unpacked game folder choose the .exe game file and click Choose. When all information looks correct, feel free to click on the "Add" button. STEP 5. You're now done and good to go. Have fun!

Why use Joiplay instead of the android version? (APK)

The Android version will be unable to be installed on all android devices due to the games file size. Therefore Joiplay is the only way to play the game on phone.

How do I transfer my saves?

In the game folder location, there should be a folder called "Saves" you can transfer all your saves to that folder and they will be ready for use! (If you don't see a saves folder, then you first need to create a save before the folder will be created)

What if an update comes out, how do i transfer the new content to JoiPlay so i can play?

If a new update comes out, you will need to repeat the same process above, remember to delete the previous version of the game fully from JoiPlay and KEEP your saves.

How the new Patch System works?

Now you can download a waaaay smaller update version that contains only the news images and new events code. If you have the previous version already, you just need to unpack/extract content into your current Lessons in Love folder and hit "Yes" to replacing all files with the same name.

Conclusion:

As the new teacher at Kumon-mi High, your days are filled with managing and developing relationships with your twenty unique students. Balance your time between teaching, visiting students at their part-time jobs, attempting to gain entry into their dorm rooms, or simply relaxing at local bars.
