Unmatched is a beloved board strategy game offering multiple game modes for players to battle against AI or other players. You'll control characters from different mythologies and histories, drawing different cards and moving your warriors each turn. Strategically play your cards to reduce the enemy hero's health to zero to win. Each hero has unique skills, which, combined with different card combinations, make the game highly replayable. The game includes tutorials and rulebooks to help players master basic gameplay and advanced techniques, allowing them to hone their card skills through battles against AI.

Useful Tips of Unmatched:

Having a gameplan: Even if you haven't played a particular matchup you should know which are key interactions and how you can win that game. Either if it's by being more aggressive to catch your opponent with more defenses or playing a slower value game trying to use all your cards efficiently. When starting I'd always recommend to try and master a few heroes so you know their matchup thread and how to play against the rest.

Maximising your advantage: Here is where your matchup knowledge comes into play. Map and position are crucial so if you know what is better for your character (or worse for your rival) it can really turn around an unfavoured matchup into a favoured one. There are plenty of guides online which guves tips on which maps are better for each character.

Understanding tempo: This is the trickiest one since the other two points are done before the game is even played. This is a game where getting positive interactions is very important, and you mostly get those by attacking. If you simply double maneuver away you will almost always lose the game. Nevertheless if you find yourself with a hand-advantage that's when you can counter-pressure your opponent and having them run for a bit to fill their hand.  Each character has their own style, so knowing what to do with them is important. For example, with Sinbad you can mostly maneuver and attack each turn since he won't need to boost their movement and will most likely have enough attacks if he plays his voyage home. On the other hand if you play a character like Dracula in the same way you might find yourself without enough cards to pressure since he doesn't have much drawing in his kit, and with a full red and yellow hand because he uses his sisters as body blockers.

Watch streams/gameplays: This isn't exactly game-related but if you want to get better I'd recommend you check out other players so you can also get the feel on how to play a character. Right now one we are in the middle of the biggest tournament so far, Winter of Champions, and there's at least one stream each day. You'll find the current best players in the world participating so you can learn a lot from there. On another note, recording and reviewing your games to catch any mistakes is also a great way to improve.

Game is fun, however I expected more from a digital adaptation of a board game.Characters, environment and cards are exactly the same as the board game, which isn't bad per se but there's so much that could be done. (Like animated characters and/or card effects, more interesting board designs, etc).Music is repetitive and feels kinda out of place. Battle phases are unnecessarily long.Good part is you can play with friends without having to get together, but the same can be done by playing it in tabletop simulator.Recommended because it's like playing the board game, which is good. Hope it improves as it develops through early access.

I'm not familiar with the board game, but I have enjoyed playing the digital version, so far. The tutorial is a bit clicky, but it isn't overly long. I had a lot of fun, in my first real game, killing Beowulf with Little Red Riding Hood. It seems like a very dedicated replica of the board game.My only concerns are that I wish there was a bit more animation and motion. It's supposed to be the digital version of the game -- so take advantage of that! It's a bit too static-looking. But, again, the game itself is enjoyable. The other concern is that there is an expensive season pass to get the rest of the maps and heroes later on (whenever they are released). I'd really rather just pay a little bit more money up-front and have the entire game. Especially if the player-base doesn't end up being very large. Having to pay $20 for the game and another $25 or $30 for the other heroes (in however many months) makes it a pretty steep investment if it winds up not having enough of a community... and in that case, I'm not sure it'll be as exciting to have a big cast of heroes, just to play against the AI.All of this said, I am enjoying the game and looking forward to more content.

This reboot feels so much better than the OG, hope it truly gets the love a digital version of this board game truly deserves. Only thing I would LOVE to see is a multiplayer mode on one device, like a steamdeck you can just pass on. Right now it only has challenge maps (thanks for that, still need to check it out but more is always better) and a much more intuitive VS computer besides the ONLINE MP.Keep up the great work, going to keep a close eye on this new version!

So if you’re into tactical gameplay that actually rewards your attention span, Unmatched is where it’s at. It’s not just digital cardboard—it’s a duel between minds, dressed up in some seriously good art and built with love for strategy heads.
