I highly recommend this app. I have tried several others, including Duolingo, Hello Chinese, and Rocket Chinese, and so far this one is teaching very well and very quickly! I am doing the Chinese course, but I also tried their Italian, German, and Spanish. They all seem just as great. I had already studied pinyin before I started their Chinese course, which made it easier however. I advise others to learn some pinyin before you start their Chinese course as well, if you want to make it easier.

Excellent conversational language study, especially for students with formal language study background. It incorporates, among other things, listening and repeating, reading, pronunciation, a little writing and cultural insights. It also uses fun exercises to test understanding. The AI "listening" in the Pronunciation Challenge sections is surprisingly good but not perfect. Only native speakers of the languages are used which is highly effective and hard to find in "real" classrooms.

Actual lessons that teach you and give you opportunity to practise in real time - much more than just an audio phrasebook with flashcards like other apps. This is the only language app I've tried that I feel is worth paying for. The language I'm learning doesn't have the AI voice recognition unfortunately and there doesn't seem to be a discount in recognition of that, which would be nice. But I'm still giving 5 stars because I really feel like I'm learning to converse, not just repeat phrases.

it's a bit on the expensive side and maintaining motivation and discipline with studying can also be a challenge, but it is by far the most effective app I've ever used for building spoken fluency. pairing this app with other study methods is very effective. It's how I started Japanese and I ended up reaching workplace proficiency. If you can keep yourself on track, it's worth the money.
