I am not too far into the game so far admittedly, but I would so far put this into one of my top favorite Kagura Games choices so far. This game is quite heavily based on Final Fantasy 5, even the very start of it plays a lot like how Bartz had started out. The game uses a job system just like FF5, find crystals to unlock new jobs and you can uses skills you unlocked in other classes. Where this changes however is that there is sub classes to supplement you main classes, like Knight plus Lancer changes your class to Dragoon.A lot of enjoyment I get from this is related to how much I love FF5; seeing similarities in the story, my love of job systems, taking abilities from said jobs and adding them into other jobs. I have also found myself liking the party members that you get; while none of them are really out there, they are charming and none of them have grated on me so far.So far the game has been pretty easy, but I am still early in the game so this might be subject to change. I will come back and update my review if it does. Another factor to cover is that while the adult scenes look very nice and have some interaction with them, there is a frame rate issue that is quite troublesome can ruin the mood. If this gets patched, I will edit this review. While this game does have it's flaws and is not going to be a new hallmark of all JRPGs, I feel like the positives vastly out weigh the negatives into being one of the top works that I have got from Kagura Games. I will come back to this review when I am farther into the game to gave a more complete review, and if things keep going at this rate they have been then I feel that I will be enjoying that journey all the to that point and beyond.
Final Fantasy V if Bartz could Lena, Faris, and Krile. Seriously.
This game is freaking awesome. Yes, it copies /a lot/ from FFV, but it does it shockingly well. The core RPG mechanics are rock solid and fun. The job system is great - and arguably better than FFV's as there are also side-jobs that add a surprising degree of versatility to each class. Want a white mage that's tanky and can throw heavy hits? No problem, just give them the warrior side-job. The characters are all distinct and relatively likable. Progression not only feels natural, but the very nature of the game drives it. No matter what you want to focus on there's always another goal right around the corner for you to focus on.And the H... ah, the H. In a word, perfection. The CGs are among the best of the best, the animations are good (they could use some smoothing and higher resolution, but still better than most games that actually have animation). (ADVISORY - the sex scenes are janky as all initially; you'll have to get patch 1.02 from the game page on Kagura's website [NOT the 18+ patch, that's different and also necessary], which takes care of most of the jank.) The majority of characters are very attractive, and cover a wide array of body types and a surprising number of kinks.I have only three small complaints; the first is that I don't really care for one of the MCs - so I wish some(all) of the side characters you have more meaningful interactions with would actually join your party permanently. The second is that the balance between ABP/EXP and gold income is pretty obviously skewed towards ABP/EXP. I was max level with all skills in all jobs learned before I had enough gold to get full sets of the best gear in stores. I will note that if you have characters in dedicated roles, it won't be as bad; but I try to have enough gear to be able to have everyone fill whatever role is best for any given situation. Lastly and most critically - there is no NG+.That all said, the complaints are minor and I still had an absolute blast regardless. This is easily within the top 5 games I've played on Steam, and probably in my top 20 overall (and I go back to the SNES days).
This game was pretty decent. It's a loving send up to the old 90s JRPGs just, you know, with boobs everywhere. There are numerous artistic similarities to Final Fantasy IV including monster designs and it has a pretty awesome soundtrack, especially for what looks like a fairly low budget game. There is plenty of adult content in the game (enough to be intrusive at times) but the game doesn't integrate the H content very well. In other words, unlike similar games there does not appear to be any in-game reward for uncovering Hentai material except for a small amount of XP, so after seeing the H scenes once or twice, you get bored with them. The characters are fairly forgettable but none of them is annoying. The story is alright, nothing exceptional but it will keep your attention. The game balance is pretty bad. You'll be able to face roll your way through the combat. By mid game, without even really trying, you'll be hitting the damage cap and I encountered few bosses that lasted more than two or three rounds. The job system is interesting but needs to fleshed out a little further. A few clearly OP abilities need to be purchased by literally a thousand SP points and the game only hands them out in fives and tens for the most part. Ignoring those overpriced options, you'll probably max out most of your jobs without really intending to. Magic appears quite underpowered and I got through the game by just meleeing everything to death, knowing that nothing could survive more than a few hits. Even in the-very-definitely-final-dungeon, monsters and bosses still go down in two or three rounds. The game suffers from severe lag in most of its H scenes which can be very frustrating when you just want them to hurry up. The game also provides a truly annoying stripping mini-game on several bosses. The lag in these cases is truly obnoxious and the mini-game fails to be either entertaining or enticing. I was visibly annoyed every time I needed to play these mini-games. The only other major gripe I have is that the game occasionally does a very poor job explaining where to go and what to do next. This only happens once or twice in the game but it tends to happen when you suddenly get a new mode of transportation and that leaves you roaming all over the world map, trying to figure out what to do. Also, why doesn't the game provide a world map? The map only shows you the local area and that's not helpful when you're looking for something or trying to figure out where you are.Is it worth playing? It's nothing as powerful as Demon Roots but it was engaging for a few hours and it did make me nostagic for old school SNES JRPGs. I played it on a friend's machine and decided to purchase a copy on steam just to reward the developer.
