Shimeji is a highly entertaining desktop companion application that offers a wide variety of adorable virtual pets for users to choose from. Strategies of Shimeji:

making your own custom shimeji is a straightforward, yet long and quite complex task. if you want to do this, you need to be patient. making your own shimeji is a task that requires art skill and more, so its not for everyone. so, here are the steps:

duplicate any shimeji img folder. this could be a shimeji base, or the default shimeji.

edit all the images to fit your own shimeji.

optional and complex step (you probably won't need it): to edit the behaviour of the shimeji, edit actions.xml and/or behaviours.xml (first create them by copying a conf folder in the img folder). this step requires good computer, xml and programming knowledge. nice thing its optional.

the hard part is: a shimeji has near 50 images, and you need to make all of them from scratch. yough here is a trick: replace some less common images (such as crawling, spinning head, window holding etc.) with a error sprite (such as a sprite that writes "error" on it, or a blank sprite) or leave the default copied shimeji's sprite.

User Reviews of Shimeji:

This app is great if you want desktop pets on mobile, and it is overall great for that. One issue I have is that there is no paint bucket tool for custom pets, or custom colours, or importing gifs. It is the only issue I have with this app as it is pretty annoying. Other than that, this app is great. edit: they added import!

I want to be honest and say that I pay for the yearly subscription. it is also worth it if you import them off of free websites and keep it down to three of them. or you watch the videos daily to generate your own. but I pay like $15 for a whole year to be able to make unlimited versions of whatever characters I like whatever animals.I absolutely love it. it does drain your battery. I keep my phone on battery save mode all the time and that fixes it.

this is such a cute and cool app, especially bc u can make ur own pets, for example, I used a pic of my fish and the app made a really accurate pet, u can buy something but u don't need to, the pet is also behind the keyboard when u type which is also really good. this is prob the best screen pet app I ever used:).

I don't know how exactly I found this app, but honestly it's amazing! it's not full of ads, and there's also a PC version which is also pretty cool, and they have their own org website that allows people to upload their own designs of mascots and stuff. if you want something cute on your phone like a mascot I would recommend this.

I got a message "The current page doesn't want shimejis"

If you see this message, you are visiting a web page that didn't support shimejis. Most common case is that you are trying to call a shimeji from your Chrome Start Page, for example after opening a new tab, which is not possible. First navigate to a regular web site and then call a shimeji.

Why does the character not move?

If your shimeji is visible but doesn't do anything, right-click on the shimeji and give a command. You can also just wait, because shimejis will have random behavior and sometimes sit, stand, or look at your mouse cursor for many seconds before doing something else.

How do I get multiple characters?

Pick a shimeji from the shimeji directory and click the activate-button. A window will pop up where you need to sign in. Repeat the proces for another shimeji. If you have reached your maximum character slots you will see a message about how to get more slots.
